Development of non-academic skills at university : what impact(s) on the employability of master's graduates?
2022
The job market has gone through changes requiring companies to adapt to internationalization as well as to the rise of new technologies and the place of digital. Recruiters expect their future employees to be able to evolve at the rate of these changes. The professional integration of young graduates is therefore conditioned by new criteria, including the acquisition of so-called non-academic skills. These non-academic skills refer to a set of skills that are closer to soft skills and less to theoretical knowledge. They depend on the ability of individuals to manage their emotions and react to others and are not specific to a discipline or a job. Based on a sample of 852 university master's…
Higher education graduates' employment and the uncertainty of working life.
2012
The aim of this chapter is to examine how the uncertainty and instability of working life is reflected in Finnish polytechnic graduates’ employment. The present study investigates the fields of business and engineering by comparing two graduate cohorts. The societal context in which new graduates enter working life is that of an increasing precariousness in the labour market, which affects higher education graduates as well as the general population. Nowadays, a higher education qualification is not necessarily a guaranteed path to a high income and high social status as it used to be. Insecurity and uncertainty in society and working life can be considered as general features of late moder…

Under these circumstances, those graduates who acquired during their s…
Soft-skills and labour market outcomes : the case of young people French graduates
2016
International audience; Young people throughout the course of their education and training within or outside the educational system can acquire a range of skills that they may make use of on the labour market. Much research has recently been done into the impact of soft skills, that is, non-cognitive skills, on the labour market in connection with "people skills" that might influence employability. We have attempted to construct soft-skill indicators and then to measure their effects on graduate pay on the basis of a study of a sample of masters graduates having responded to the Céreq Generation 2010 survey and re-surveyed in 2014. We show that certain soft skills explain a proportion of th…
Regional mobility of the French post secondary graduate students entering the labour market
2008
With the innovations of the national statistical system, the study of the geographical mobility during the transition between school and employment is now possible. This article presents the various regional migratory situations at the end of the Nineties, and the main transformations that has occurred during the last fifteen years. Knowing better the labour migration patterns of new graduates allows us to characterize the various relations that exist between academic background and employment at the regional scale. It appears that there is not an obvious relation between the quality of the transition from school to the labour market and the various regional migratory situations.
Migracje absolwentów szkół wyższych a kształtowanie się kapitału ludzkiego w województwie opolskim
2019
Województwo opolskie to region silnie zdeterminowany demograficznie szczególnie procesami migracyjnymi o różnorodnych implikacjach społecznych i ekonomicznych.
