Scanning protein sequence database is an often repeated task in computational biology and bioinformatics. However, scanning large protein databases, such as GenBank, with popular tools such as BLASTP requires long runtimes on sequential architectures. Due to the continuing rapid growth of sequence databases, there is a high demand to accelerate this task. In this paper, we demonstrate how GPUs, powered by the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA), can be used as an efficient computational platform to accelerate the BLASTP algorithm. The article presents new compound words, which are frequently a verbal component of internet polycode texts, i.e. demotivators. Demotivators, i.e. pictures combining graphics or photo and ironie commentary, were at first a response to motivational posters, whose task was to encourage people to work or learn. In the virtual world demotivators comment on current events or mock everyday nonsense. They are such a solidified genre that some of the commentaries used in demotivators can be perceived as phraseological neologisms.

Restoration of digital visual media acquired from repositories of historical photographic and cinematographic material is of key importance for the preservation, study and transmission of the legacy of past cultures to the coming generations. In this paper, a fully automatic approach to the digital restoration of historical stereo photographs is proposed, referred to as Stacked Median Restoration plus (SMR+). The approach exploits the content redundancy in stereo pairs for detecting and fixing scratches, dust, dirt spots and many other defects in the original images, as well as improving contrast and illumination. Progressive mesh is a data structure that encodes a continuous spectrum of mesh approximations. Sliding window progressive meshes (SWPM) minimize data transfers between CPU and GPU by storing mesh data in static on-GPU memory buffers [For01]. The main disadvantages of the original SWPM algorithm are poor vertex cache usage efficiency, and big resulting datasets. Connectivity-based algorithm [KT04] achieves a good vertex cache coherence but it does not address the problem of high memory utilization. Abstract A common assumption in chemistry is that chiral behavior is associated with 3-D geometry. However, chiral information is related to symmetry, which allows the topological handling of chiral atoms by weighted graphs and the calculation of new descriptors that give a weight to the corresponding entry in the main diagonal of the topological matrix. In this study, it is demonstrated that, operating in this way, chiral topological indices are obtained that can differentiate the pharmacological activity between pairs of enantiomers.
