Determination of SiO 2 in lime mud by gravimetry

A simple and rapid method for the determination of SiO2 in lime mud used in current sulfate pulping practice is reported. The lime mud samples are treated three times with 2.5 mL of 6 mol/L hydrochloric acid. The samples are nearly evaporated to dryness two times and the third time to complete dryness. To determine the exact SiO2 content of the residue, it is treated with an excess of concentrated hydrofluoric acid and a little hydrochloric acid, and the silica is expelled as volatile silicon tetrafluoride. Abstract During the reversible electrochemical reactions of the intrinsically conducting polymer (ICP) films, ions are inserted in them to balance the inner charge site of the polymer. For this reason, doped ICP films with anions or cations can be good candidates for the electrochemical removal of contaminant ions from wastewater. Synthesis and characterization of novel organic–inorganic hybrid block copolymers

Novel organic–inorganic hybrid block copolymers based on poly(methylsilsesquioxanes) (PMSSQs) have been synthesized. Two routes to functionalized PMSSQs are presented and from both atom transfer radical polymerization of methylmethacrylate could be performed. Copolymers with different block ratios have been polymerized and were characterized. In particular, thermal properties were investigated by TGA and the promising thermal decomposition behaviour makes the copolymers potential candidates as pore generators in future nanoporous materials. Thermal studies of sulphonamide derivative complexes

Abstract A thermal study of a new series of acetazolamidate complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) using the TG, DTG and DTA techniques in flowing air, static air and N 2 atmospheres is described. From the TG-DTG and DTA curves, different thermal behaviours can be observed. Although in all the complexes the processes of dehydration, deammination and pyrolysis can be clearly observed, in some cases they appear as several well-separated steps and, in others, as continuous stages which take place simultaneously. Development of a new peat-based oil sorbent using peat pyrolysis

The growing use and transport of crude oil and oil products has led to increasing numbers of oil spillages of various scales. Oil sorbents have been extensively used for remediation of the consequences of such accidents. The aim of this study is to investigate the possible use of peat and its thermal treatment products for oil sorption. Peat as an oil sorbent has poor buoyancy characteristics, relatively low oil sorption capacity and low hydrophobicity. Acetonitrile inclusion complexes of piperazine-based macrocycles

New piperazine-based macrocycles with single small cavities were prepared by using high dilution technique. The inclusion of acetonitrile into the cavity (7, 8) or clathrate formation (3) was studied by 1H-NMR spectroscopy in solution and by X-ray diffraction in the crystalline state. A methodology to assess the energetic valorization of bio-based polymers from the packaging industry: pyrolysis of reprocessed polylactide

The energetic valorization process of bio-based polymers is addressed in this study, taking polylactide (PLA) as model. The pyrolysis of virgin and multiple-injected PLA was simulated by means of multi-rate linear-non-isothermal thermogravimetric experiments. A complete methodology, involving control of gases, thermal stability and thermal decomposition kinetics was proposed. The release of gases was monitored by Evolved Gas Analysis of the fumes of pyrolysis, by in-line FT-IR, with the aid of 2D-correlation IR characterization. International audience; We report here for the first time a thermodynamic study of gaseous ethanol sorption on raw cork powder and plate. Our study aims at a better understanding of the reactivity of this material when used as a stopper under enological conditions, thus in close contact with a hydroethanolic solution, wine. Sorption−desorption isotherms were accurately measured by thermogravimetry at 298 K in a large range of relative pressures.
