Effects of dietary administration of fenugreek seeds, alone or in combination with probiotics, on growth performance parameters, humoral immune respo…
2016
The use of immunostimulants is considered a promising preventive practice that may help to maintain animal welfare and a healthy environment, while increasing production and providing higher profits. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects on gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.) of the dietary administration of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum) seeds, alone or combined with one of the following probiotic strains: Bacillus licheniformis (TSB27), Lactobacillus plantarum or Bacillus subtilis (B46). Gilthead seabream were fed a control or one of the supplemented diets for 3 weeks. The effects of these supplemented diets on growth performance parameters and the humoral immune r…

Lo verosímil en la ética de Aristóteles: una aporía en el vocabulario filosófico griego
2007
While the mainstream of modern moral philosophy has always assumed that the characteristic situation in moral judgments should be the certitude, Aristotle’s moral philosophy is dominated by the idea of verisimilitude. As a matter of fact, its main concept, namely «virtue», is doubly permeated by this idea, both in its psychological and epistemological sides: we cannot know with certitude (only with verisimilitude) what is entailed by the adscription of a virtue (e.g. generosity), both generally and in a particular case. Nevertheless, verisimilitude is a good enough ground for action.

Mientras que la corriente principal de la filosofía moral moderna da por supuesto que la …
Frequencies of pseudocholinesterase variants in Icelanders, Greeks and Pakistanis.
1968
THE formation of the human pseudocholinesterase variants is controlled by at least four alleles at one autosomal locus termed E1 (ref. 1). The four alleles are , , and (refs. 2–5). The heterozygotes have been found in remarkably uniform frequencies, about 3 to 6 per cent, in Caucasians from Europe and North America3,8–11, and also in Australian aborigines12 and Mexican Indians13, but are relatively rare among Negroes11 and Mongoloids10,11,14.
Zur Hufigkeit der Serumprotein-Polymorphismen Hp, Gc, Gm, InV und Lp in Griechenland
1967
The authors report the frequencies of Hp-, Gc-, Gm-, InV-, and Lp-phenotypes and alleles in a Greek sample of 218 unrelated adult males and females. The following gene-frequencies were obtained: Hp1=.2850, Hp2=.7150; Gc1=.7590, Gc2=.2410; Gm1=.1555, Gm1,2=.1015, Gm12=.7430. The phenotype InV (1) was found to be 14.6%. Lp (ax)-typing showed 17.0% strong positive individuals, 9.7% weak positive ones, and 73.3% negatives. According to Speiser and Pausch (1965) this may be interpreted as the following phenotypes distribution: Lp (a+x+)=17.0%, Lp(a+x-)=9.7%, and Lp(a-x-)=73.3%. Our data differ somewhat from data obtained by other authors, which seems to indicate heterogeneity in the distribution…

Shallow Sea Gas Manifestations in the Aegean Sea (Greece) as Natural Analogs to Study Ocean Acidification: First Catalog and Geochemical Characteriza…
2022
The concepts of CO2 emission, global warming, climate change, and their environmental impacts are of utmost importance for the understanding and protection of the ecosystems. Among the natural sources of gases into the atmosphere, the contribution of geogenic sources plays a crucial role. However, while subaerial emissions are widely studied, submarine outgassing is not yet well understood. In this study, we review and catalog 122 literature and unpublished data of submarine emissions distributed in ten coastal areas of the Aegean Sea. This catalog includes descriptions of the degassing vents through in situ observations, their chemical and isotopic compositions, and flux estimations. Tempe…
L'arte mantica alla prova dello scetticismo nell'Edipo re
2022
Since the beginning of the Sophoclean drama OT, King Oedipus, in his attempt to contrast the plague that afflicts Thebes, has to confront the traditional influence of the Delphic oracles and the opinion of the local seer, Tiresias, who is demanding to interpret the words of the God Apollo. In this sense, the Sophoclean drama seems to set into the Attic scene the main traits of its contemporary public debate (second half of the 5th Century BC) about power and fallibility of both oracles and their human interpreters, the so-called manteis. This paper aims by means of a detailed analysis of the dramatic discourse to investigate the positions expressed by the different characters involved in th…
The ὅρος ἤτοι ἐτυμολογία of testamentum and the problem of sources in the Paraphrase of Theophilus
2014
Among the problems long debated by the scholars of the Greek Paraphrase of Justinian’s Institutes, the most interesting was the one concerning the legal sources used by Theophilus; they indeed are not identical with Justinian’s Institutes. Furthermore, a point of view prevails that claims the Antecessor – during the editing of his Paraphrase – could also have taken into consideration Gaius’ Institutes. My speech is based on a close analysis of a well-known passage (Theoph. 2,10 pr. concerning the definition or etymology, ὅρος ἤτοι ἐτυμολογία, of testamentum) and it aims to re-examine how Theophilus managed his sources. The content of the principium is far wider and better articulated compar…
From a previous approach about phonetic and morphological features in the Hippocratic treatrises De fistulis and …
