A group-theory method to find stationary states in nonlinear discrete symmetry systems

In the field of nonlinear optics, the self-consistency method has been applied to searching optical solitons in different media. In this paper, we generalize this method to other systems, adapting it to discrete symmetry systems by using group theory arguments. The result is a new technique that incorporates symmetry concepts into the iterative procedure of the self-consistency method, that helps the search of symmetric stationary solutions. An efficient implementation of this technique is also presented, which restricts the computational work to a reduced section of the entire domain and is able to find different types of solutions by specifying their symmetry properties. Sufficient conditions for coincidence in ℓ1 multifacility location problems

We consider the problem of finding the optimal way of locating a finite number of facilities in a finite dimensional space, in order to minimize a weighted sum of the distances between these and other pre-existent facilities which are already positioned. We study the specific case where distance is measured in the @?"1, giving a new sufficient condition for identifying groups of facilities whose position will coincide at optimality.

Bounds on the number of maximal subgroups of finite groups

In this paper we obtain significant bounds for the number of maximal subgroups of a given index of a finite group. These results allow us to give new bounds for the number of random generators needed to generate a finite $d$-generated group with high probability.

Sard property for the endpoint map on some Carnot groups

In Carnot-Caratheodory or sub-Riemannian geometry, one of the major open problems is whether the conclusions of Sard's theorem holds for the endpoint map, a canonical map from an infinite-dimensional path space to the underlying finite-dimensional manifold. The set of critical values for the endpoint map is also known as abnormal set, being the set of endpoints of abnormal extremals leaving the base point. We prove that a strong version of Sard's property holds for all step-2 Carnot groups and several other classes of Lie groups endowed with left-invariant distributions. Inverse problems for elliptic equations with fractional power type nonlinearities

We study inverse problems for semilinear elliptic equations with fractional power type nonlinearities. Our arguments are based on the higher order linearization method, which helps us to solve inverse problems for certain nonlinear equations in cases where the solution for a corresponding linear equation is not known. By using a fractional order adaptation of this method, we show that the results of [LLLS20a, LLLS20b] remain valid for general power type nonlinearities.

Isometries of nilpotent metric groups

We consider Lie groups equipped with arbitrary distances. We only assume that the distance is left-invariant and induces the manifold topology. For brevity, we call such object metric Lie groups. Apart from Riemannian Lie groups, distinguished examples are sub-Riemannian Lie groups and, in particular, Carnot groups equipped with Carnot-Carath\'eodory distances. We study the regularity of isometries, i.e., distance-preserving homeomorphisms. Our first result is the analyticity of such maps between metric Lie groups. The second result is that if two metric Lie groups are connected and nilpotent then every isometry between the groups is the composition of a left translation and an isomorphism.…

We generalize both the notion of polynomial functions on Lie groups and the notion of horizontally affine maps on Carnot groups. We fix a subset $S$ of the algebra $\mathfrak g$ of left-invariant vector fields on a Lie group $\mathbb G$ and we assume that $S$ Lie generates $\mathfrak g$. Integral binary Hamiltonian forms and their waterworlds

We give a graphical theory of integral indefinite binary Hamiltonian forms $f$ analogous to the one by Conway for binary quadratic forms and the one of Bestvina-Savin for binary Hermitian forms. Given a maximal order $\mathcal O$ in a definite quaternion algebra over $\mathbb Q$, we define the waterworld of $f$, analogous to Conway's river and Bestvina-Savin's ocean, and use it to give a combinatorial description of the values of $f$ on $\mathcal O\times\mathcal O$. Sets with constant normal in Carnot groups: properties and examples

We analyze subsets of Carnot groups that have intrinsic constant normal, as they appear in the blowup study of sets that have finite sub-Riemannian perimeter. The purpose of this paper is threefold. First, we prove some mild regularity and structural results in arbitrary Carnot groups. Namely, we show that for every constant-normal set in a Carnot group its sub-Riemannian-Lebesgue representative is regularly open, contractible, and its topological boundary coincides with the reduced boundary and with the measure-theoretic boundary.
