A new ligand, N, N, N', N'-tetramethylethylenediamine, has been used to grow ZnO nanorods on silicon substrates via a two steps approach. A preliminary seeding on silicon substrates has been combined with chemical bath deposition using a Zinc acetate - N, N, N', N'-tetramethylethylenediamine aqueous solution. The used diamino ligand has been selected as Zn(2+) complexing agent and the related hydrolysis generates the reacting ions (Zn(2-) and OH(-)) responsible for the ZnO growth. A simple version of the immunocompetence handicap hypothesizes that through condition-dependence, the size of the sexual trait may be positively related to immune function at the population level. In the present study, we investigated the relationship between sexual advertisement and immune function in a natural population of male wolf spiders, Hygrolycosa rubrofasciata (Araneae: Lycosidae). Males of H. rubrofasciata have a costly and condition-dependent acoustic signal, courtship drumming. In the mating season, males drum against dry leaves while wandering around the habitat searching for receptive females. A reconstruction of sea surface temperature (SST) spanning 45 years (1966–2011) was developed from δ18O obtained from the aragonitic shells of Glycymeris glycymeris, collected from the Bay of Brest, France. Bivalve sampling was undertaken monthly between 2014 and 2015 using a dredge. In total, 401 live specimens and 243 articulated paired valves from dead specimens were collected, of which 24 individuals were used to reconstruct SST. Abstract In recent decades research in the conservation and restoration field has provided sustainable alternatives to traditional procedures for cleaning or controlling the microbial colonization of works of art.
