The Scope of Zinc Oxide Bulk Growth

The techniques classically used for the growth of bulk ZnO crystals, melt-growth, vapour growth, solution-growth and hydrothermal growth, are reviewed. In the case of vapor growth, numerical simulations suggest that such species as H2 + H2O, CH4, Zn, C or Fe could act as sublimation activators. The electrical and structural properties of crystals obtained by these various techniques are compared.

The kinetic MC modelling of reversible pattern formation in initial stages of thin metallic film growth on crystalline substrates

Abstract The results of kinetic MC simulations of the reversible pattern formation during the adsorption of mobile metal atoms on crystalline substrates are discussed. Pattern formation, simulated for submonolayer metal coverage, is characterized in terms of the joint correlation functions for a spatial distribution of adsorbed atoms. A wide range of situations, from the almost irreversible to strongly reversible regimes, is simulated. We demonstrate that the patterns obtained are defined by a key dimensionless parameter: the ratio of the mutual attraction energy between atoms to the substrate temperature. Retinol encapsulated into amorphous Ca2+ polyphosphate nanospheres acts synergistically in MC3T3-E1 cells

Both the quality and quantity of collagen, the major structural component of the skin, decrease in aging skin. We succeeded to encapsulate retinol into amorphous inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) nanoparticles together with calcium ions ("aCa-polyP-NP"), under formation of amorphous Ca-polyP/retinol nanospheres ("retinol/aCa-polyP-NS"). The globular nanospheres are not cytotoxic, show an almost uniform size of ≈ 45 nm and have a retinol content of around 25%. Both components of those nanospheres, retinol and the aCa-polyP-NP, if administered together, caused a strong increase in proliferation of mouse calvaria MC3T3 cells. Kinetics of styrene biodegradation by Pseudomonas sp. E-93486

The research into kinetics of styrene biodegradation by bacterial strain Pseudomonas sp. E-93486 coming from VTT Culture Collection (Finland) was presented in this work. Microbial growth tests in the presence of styrene as the sole carbon and energy source were performed both in batch and continuous cultures. Batch experiments were conducted for initial concentration of styrene in the liquid phase changed in the range of 5–90 g m−3. The Haldane model was found to be the best to fit the kinetic data, and the estimated constants of the equation were: μm = 0.1188 h−1, KS = 5.984 mg l−1, and Ki = 156.6 mg l−1. Our purpose was to analyse the influence of O2 pressure on the adhesion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) on 3-tricalcium phosphate (3-TCP) scaffold. DPSC isolated from extracted third molars were seeded on 3-TCP and cultured under 3% or 21% O2 pressure. Cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation over the biomaterial were evaluated at 7, 13, 18, and 23 days of culture. Cell adhesion was determined by light microscopy, proliferation by DNA quantification, and osteogenic differentiation by alkaline phosphatase activity analysis. c-MYC Triggers Lipid Remodelling During Early Somatic Cell Reprogramming to Pluripotency.

AbstractMetabolic rewiring and mitochondrial dynamics remodelling are hallmarks of cell reprogramming, but the roles of the reprogramming factors in these changes are not fully understood. Here we show that c-MYC induces biosynthesis of fatty acids and increases the rate of pentose phosphate pathway. Time-course profiling of fatty acids and complex lipids during cell reprogramming using lipidomics revealed a profound remodelling of the lipid content, as well as the saturation and length of their acyl chains, in a c-MYC-dependent manner. Abstract Three fruit beverages: Fb (grape–orange–apricot), FbFe (Fb + iron sulphate) and FbFeM (FbFe + skimmed milk) were subjected to in vitro gastrointestinal digestion. Addition of Fe and milk decreased the phenolic content of Fb by 13% and 55%, respectively. The digestion process decreased the phenolic content by 47%, 60%, and 70% in Fb, FbFe and FbFeM with respect to the initial, non-digested, Fb. Caco-2 cells were incubated for 4 h daily for four days or continuously for 24 h with bioaccessible fractions obtained after the digestion (digests). Polyphenols were not metabolised by Caco-2 cells. Some fundamentals of the vapor and solution growth of ZnSe and ZnO

Abstract Some fundamentals of ZnSe and ZnO vapor and solution growth are investigated. Residual water present in gases or gaseous mixtures such as H 2 , Ar or H 2 +H 2 O is shown to act as a sublimation activator in the vapor-phase transport of both compounds. The processes involved in the growth by chemically activated sublimation with such gases and gas mixtures have been studied by close-spaced vapor transport (CSVT).
