Detection of natural killer T cells in mice infected with Rickettsia conorii.

2013

Little information is available regarding the role of natural killer T (NKT) cells during the early stage of Rickettsia conorii infection. Herein, C3H/HeN mice were infected with the Malish 7 strain of R. conorii. Splenocytes from these mice were analysed in the early stage of the infection by flow cytometry and compared with uninfected controls. Our results showed an increase in NKT cells in infected mice. Additionally, NKT interleukin (IL)-17(+) cells increased three days after infection, together with a concurrent decrease in the relative amount of NKT interferon (IFN)-γ(+) cells. We also confirmed a higher amount of NK IFN-γ(+) cells in infected mice. Taken together, our data showed tha…

Efficacy and safety of photodynamic therapy with RLP068 for diabetic foot ulcers: a review of the literature and clinical experience

2020

This article is the second part of a literature review concerning diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and the use of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT). PDT involves the topical application of a photosensitiser into the tissue, followed by illumination that induces the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). PDT provides bacterial inactivation and promotes wound healing, and it can be used to manage the infection and microbial colonisation of DFUs. It has pivotal advantages in comparison with chemotherapeutics, such as no potential to induce resistance, and a wide spectrum of activity. Tetracationic Zn(II) phthalocyanine derivatives have been developed for PDT. Among these, we would like …

Standardization of Road Danger Signs in the European Union

2015

The aim of this research is to find a solution for the standardization of road signs in the EU zone by a comparative analysis of different national sign systems to establish a common set from a single country. This work is based on the idea that road sign standardization might increase the safety level of transnational journeys and foster the relationships among the various members of the EU Community. This paper presents the outcome of the first step of the research, which focuses on the harmonization of danger signs. In more detail, a multicriteria approach is applied to rank 19 EU Member States on the basis of three main aspects: the installation cost of new signs, new sign learning issu…

Photoluminescent Detection of Human T-Lymphoblastic Cells by ZnO Nanorods.

2020

The precise detection of cancer cells currently remains a global challenge. One-dimensional (1D) semiconductor nanostructures (e.g., ZnO nanorods) have attracted attention due to their potential use in cancer biosensors. In the current study, it was demonstrated that the possibility of a photoluminescent detection of human leukemic T-cells by using a zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO NRs) platform. Monoclonal antibodies (MABs) anti-CD5 against a cluster of differentiation (CD) proteins on the pathologic cell surface have been used as a bioselective layer on the ZnO surface. The optimal concentration of the protein anti-CD5 to form an effective bioselective layer on the ZnO NRs surface was selected. …

Development of high-performance thin layer chromatography method for identification of phenolic compounds and quantification of rosmarinic acid conte…

2020

ABSTRACT Aim: Representatives of Nepetoideae Burnett subfamily are promising species of the Lamiaceae Martinov family because of accumulating such valuable groups of secondary metabolites as terpenoids and polyphenols. A high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) fingerprint method for the qualitative determination of phenolic compounds and for the quantification of rosmarinic acid (RA) content in methanol extracts of five species of this subfamily was developed for the first time. Materials and Methods: Dried aerial parts of Dracocephalum moldavica L., Ocimum americanum L., Lophanthus anisatus (Nutt.) Benth., Monarda fistulosa L., and Satureja hortensis L. collected in flowering pe…

Katsaus ryhmän vuorovaikutuksen analysointimenetelmiin

2011

Immunogenicity and safety of a quadrivalent high-dose inactivated influenza vaccine compared with a standard-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine in h…

2021

A quadrivalent high-dose inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV4-HD) is licensed for adults ≥65 y of age based on immunogenicity and efficacy studies. However, IIV4-HD has not been evaluated in adults aged 60–64 y. This study compared immunogenicity and safety of IIV4-HD with a standard-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine (IIV4-SD) in adults aged ≥60 y. This Phase III, randomized, modified double-blind, active-controlled study enrolled 1,528 participants aged ≥60 y, randomized 1:1 to a single injection of IIV4-HD or IIV4-SD. Hemagglutination inhibition (HAI) geometric mean titers (GMTs) were measured at baseline and D 28 and seroconversion assessed. Safety was described for 180 d after vaccinat…

2020

Background: Registry studies broadly describing the safety of systemic drugs in psoriasis are needed. Objective: To describe the safety findings of the systemic drugs acitretin, adalimumab, apremilast, cyclosporine, etanercept, infliximab, methotrexate, secukinumab, and ustekinumab used for the treatment of moderate to severe psoriasis in patients included in the Spanish Registry of Adverse Events for Biological Therapy in Dermatological Diseases (BIOBADADERM) Registry. Methods: The incidence rate ratio (IRR) and adjusted IRR (including propensity scores) of identified adverse events for each drug, using methotrexate as reference, were determined by means of a prospective cohort. Results: O…

Abemaciclib: safety and effectiveness of a unique cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor

2020

Introduction: The discovery and the clinical availability of novel cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 inhibitors have profoundly changed the therapeutic scenario of metastatic hormone receptor-positive breast carcinoma. Among these inhibitors, abemaciclib can induce potent and sustained cell cycle arrest and immune system stimulation. Areas covered: This review summarizes the safety profile and clinical efficacy data on abemaciclib alone or in combination with aromatase inhibitors or fulvestrant in metastatic hormone receptor-positive breast carcinoma. The management of patients treated with abemaciclib is the object of this paper. Expert opinion: As shown in phase 2 and 3 clinical trials on …
