Partial Discharge Measurements under DC Voltages Containing Harmonics Produced by Power Electronic Devices

2018

Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring is one of the main diagnostic instrument to evaluate the reliability of modern electrical transmission and distribution systems. The widespread use of High voltage dc (HVDC) connections increase the demand of voltage source converters (VSCs) which, as a consequence, has brought about new challenges in the field of partial discharge measurements. In fact, the output voltage waveforms generated by AC/DC modular multilevel converters (MMCs) are affected by a significant harmonic content which influences the Partial Discharges (PDs) activity. For this reason, previous research mainly investigated the PD phenomenon on the AC side of the converter. The aim of the…

Analysis of the electromagnetic radiation generated by a multipactor discharge occurring within a microwave passive component

2010

International audience; Multipactoring is a non-linear phenomenon that appears in highpower microwave equipments operating under vacuum conditions and causes several undesirable effects. In this manuscript, a theoretical and experimental study of the RF spectrum radiated by a multipactor discharge, occurring within a realistic microwave component based on rectangular waveguides, is reported. The electromagnetic coupling of a multipactor current to the fundamental propagative mode of a uniform waveguide has been analyzed in the context of the microwave network theory. The discharge produced under a single-carrier RF voltage regime has been approached as a shunt current source exciting such a…

Influence of Ag, Cu dopants on the second and third harmonic response of ZnO films

2009

International audience; Silver- and copper-doped ZnO films were prepared by radio-frequency (RF)-magnetron sputtering on glass and quartz substrates. The influence of dopants content on the microstructural evolution and optical as well as nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were investigated. It has been found that the grain sizes were enlarged with increasing of Ag, Cu dopants amount in ZnO films. The Ag or Cu doping leads to the optical band gap narrowing. Besides, the second-order NLO response of Ag- and Cu-doped ZnO films is lower than that of undoped ZnO film. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the ZnO:Ag film was found to be higher than that of the ZnO:Cu film at the si…

Non-critically phase-matched cascaded THG at 440 nm in KTiOP1−yAsyO4 crystals

1995

Abstract We report the relative nonlinear optical properties of flux-grown KTiOP 1− y As y O 4 crystals ( y =0, y =0.03 and y =0.12). The non-critical phase-matching temperatures along the x -axis for blue generation by type II indirect third harmonic generation from 1318.8 nm and 1320 nm are measured. The phosphorus-arsenic substitution allows a “chemical tuning” of the phase-matching properties, through a birefringence variation, so that non-critical phase-matching at room temperature is possible for the previous interactions. Type II frequency doubling from 1064 nm is briefly considered.

Photosensitivity and second harmonic generation in chalcogenide arsenic sulfide poled glasses

2011

International audience; The present work investigates the photoinduced Second Harmonic Generation processes in thermally poled arsenic sulfide glasses. SHG Maker fringes patterns associated to SHG kinetic measurements about illumination and Raman spectroscopy have been conducted in order to bring new information which confirm the combined influence of charge carriers and mid-range glass structural modification on the poling and the photodarkening mechanisms.

Chalcogenide Glasses Based on Germanium Disulfide for Second Harmonic Generation

2007

International audience; High second-order susceptibilities are created by thermal poling in bulk germanium disulfide based chalcogenide glasses. Experimental conditions of the poling treatment (temperature, voltage, time) were optimized for each glass composition. The second-order nonlinear signals were recorded by using the Maker fringes experiment and a second-order coefficient χ(2) up to 8 pm V-1 was measured in the Ge25Sb10S65 glass. This value is obtained using a simulation based on accurate knowledge of the thickness of the nonlinear layer. Two mechanisms are proposed to explain the creation of a nonlinear layer under the anode: the formation and the migration of charged defects towar…

Reduction of phonon thermal conductivity in nanowires and nanoribbons with dynamically rough surfaces and edges

2009

We present an analytical model and molecular-dynamics simulations of the phonon heat transport in nanowires and nanoribbons with anharmonic lattices and dynamically rough surfaces and edges. In agreement with recent experiments on heat transport in single-crystalline silicon nanowires with rough surfaces, our model and simulations predict finite and length-independent phonon thermal conductivity in such quasi–one-dimensional systems, in contrast to anomalous phonon thermal conductivity of corresponding momentum-conserving systems with atomically smooth surfaces, divergent with the system length. Within our model, the main cause of thermal conductivity reduction is the momentum-nonconserving…
