Glyphosate-based herbicide use affects individual microbial taxa in strawberry endosphere but not the microbial community composition
2023
AbstractAimsIn a field study, the effects of treatments of glyphosate-based herbicides (GBHs) in soil, alone and in combination with phosphate fertilizer, were examined on the performance and endophytic microbiota of garden strawberry. Methods and resultsThe root and leaf endophytic microbiota of garden strawberries grown in GBH-treated and untreated soil, with and without phosphate fertilizer, were analyzed. Next, bioinformatics analysis on the type of 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase enzyme was conducted to assess the potential sensitivity of strawberry-associated bacteria and fungi to glyphosate, and to compare the results with field observations. GBH treatments altered the abu…

ANALIZZARE ED INTERPRETARE L’OMOFOBIA: ETEROSESSUALIZZAZIONE, COSTRUZIONE DELLE MASCHILITÀ E VIOLENZA ANTI-OMOSESSUALE
2012

Beneficiation, desilication and selective precipitation techniques for phosphorus refining from biomass derived fly ash
2018
The supply of affordable phosphorus (P), a biocritical element, is at great risk due to the utilization of limited natural phosphate minerals at an unprecedented scale. The need of phosphorus recovery to sustain the anthropogenic P-cycle was recog- nized and fly ash, a waste product from the combustion of renewable biofuels, was selected as the secondary resource. Increasing supply of fly ash in the future due to growing use of forest biofuels in energy production also contributes to its suitability for P-recovery. Fly ash comprises of silicates, oxides, carbonates, phosphates and hydroxides of the elements that potentially represent the entire periodic table. This only augments the complexity…
The Influence of Acetylcholine and Choline on the Incorporation of Phosphate into Phospholipids of Etiolated Bean Hypocotyl Hooks
1980
Summary Acetylcholine influenced the radiolabelling of phospholipids in vivo in etiolated hypocotyl tissue of dwarf beans in darkness. Under aerobic conditions the specific activity of the phospholipids was decreased and under anaerobic conditions increased. The biosynthesis of phospholipids was strongly increased by the bivalent cations calcium and manganese and decreased by 2,4-dinitrophenol, anaerobiosis, atropine and ascorbic acid. Magnesium stimulated the uptake of the radioactive phosphate but not the specific activity of the phospholipids. The results are discussed in comparison with the «phospholipid-effect» of acetylcholine in animal tissues.
Modular Small Diameter Vascular Grafts with Bioactive Functionalities.
2015
We report the fabrication of a novel type of artificial small diameter blood vessels, termed biomimetic tissue-engineered blood vessels (bTEBV), with a modular composition. They are composed of a hydrogel scaffold consisting of two negatively charged natural polymers, alginate and a modified chitosan, N,O-carboxymethyl chitosan (N,O-CMC). Into this biologically inert scaffold two biofunctionally active biopolymers are embedded, inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) and silica, as well as gelatin which exposes the cell recognition signal, Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD). These materials can be hardened by exposure to Ca(2+) through formation of Ca(2+) bridges between the polyanions, alginate, N,O-CMC, and polyP…
Engineering a morphogenetically active hydrogel for bioprinting of bioartificial tissue derived from human osteoblast-like SaOS-2 cells.
2014
Abstract Sodium alginate hydrogel, stabilized with gelatin, is a suitable, biologically inert matrix that can be used for encapsulating and 3D bioprinting of bone-related SaOS-2 cells. However, the cells, embedded in this matrix, remain in a non-proliferating state. Here we show that addition of an overlay onto the bioprinted alginate/gelatine/SaOS-2 cell scaffold, consisting of agarose and the calcium salt of polyphosphate [polyP·Ca 2+ -complex], resulted in a marked increase in cell proliferation . In the presence of 100 μ m polyP·Ca2+ -complex, the cells proliferate with a generation time of approximately 47–55 h. In addition, the hardness of the alginate/gelatin hydrogel substantially i…
Inorganic phosphate is a trigger factor for Microbispora sp. ATCC-PTA-5024 growth and NAI-107 production
2014
Background NAI-107, produced by the actinomycete Microbispora sp. ATCC-PTA-5024, is a promising lantibiotic active against Gram-positive bacteria and currently in late preclinical-phase. Lantibiotics (lanthionine-containing antibiotics) are ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs), encoded by structural genes as precursor peptides. The biosynthesis of biologically active compounds is developmentally controlled and it depends upon a variety of environmental stimuli and conditions. Inorganic phosphate (Pi) usually negatively regulates biologically-active molecule production in Actinomycetes, while it has been reported to have a positive control on lantibiotic…
