Complete 1H, 13C{1H}, and 31P NMR Spectral Parameters of Some Pyrophosphates

2017

The 1H, 13C{1H}, and 31P NMR spectral parameters of some pyrophosphates were determined in CDCl3. The most complicated 1H spectrum can be solved fully only as (A3MN)R6XX′R6′(MNA3)′, where R6 (= ―N(CH3)2) is coupled only to phosphorus (X). Second-order coupling between phosphorus was found and solved with iterative analysis. A signal shape of one of the carbon resonance cannot be explained only with couplings. Explanation for exceptional shape was searched from molecular modeling results. peerReviewed

Amorphous Polyphosphate and Ca‐Carbonate Nanoparticles Improve the Self‐Healing Properties of both Technical and Medical Cements

2020

Cement is used both as a construction material and for medical applications. Previously, it has been shown that the physiological polymer inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) is morphogenetically active in regeneration of skin, bone, and cartilage. The present study investigates the question if this polymer is also a suitable additive to improve the self-healing capacity not only of construction cement but also of inorganic bone void fillers. For the application in the cement, two different polyP-based amorphous nanoparticles (NP) are prepared, amorphous Ca-polyP NP and amorphous Ca-carbonate (ACC) NP. The particles are integrated into poly(methyl methacrylate) in a concentration ratio of 1:10. …

Hydration process and rheological properties of cement pastes modified by orthophosphate addition

2005

Abstract The use of cement by nuclear industry for confining low radioactive waste knows a constant increase. The interest bore to this material is due to its mechanical and chemical properties. However, these properties may be modified by the nature and the amount of wastes introduced with the mixing solution especially with large amount of phosphate. Precipitation of hydroxylapatite in the cement paste at the very beginning after mixing was emphasized from a particular concentration of orthophosphate. It was also found that this phenomenon leads to an early rigidification of the cement paste. From a kinetics point of view, the evolution of hydration was both delayed and slowed down accord…

Bio-silica and bio-polyphosphate: applications in biomedicine (bone formation)

2012

Bio-silica represents the main mineral component of the sponge skeletal elements (siliceous spicules), while bio-polyphosphate (bio-polyP), a multifunctional polymer existing in microorganisms and animals acts, among others, as reinforcement for pores in cell membranes. These natural inorganic bio-polymers, which can be readily prepared, either by recombinant enzymes (bio-silica and bio-polyP) or chemically (polyP), are promising materials/substances for the amelioration and/or treatment of human bone diseases and dysfunctions. It has been demonstrated that bio-silica causes in vitro a differential effect on the expression of the genes OPG and RANKL, encoding two mediators that control the …

Chromogenic detection of nerve agent mimics

2008

The current rise in international concern over criminal terrorist attacks via chemical warfare (CW) agents has resulted in an increasing interest in the detection of these lethal chemicals. Among CW species, nerve agents are extremely dangerous and their high toxicity and ease of production underscore the need to detect these deadly chemicals via quick and reliable procedures. A number of detection systems have been developed, most of them based on enzymatic and physical methodologies. However, these usually show limitations such as low selectivity, lack of portability and a certain complexity in their use. An alternative to these classical methods that has been gaining interest in recent y…

Struggles for moral value and the reproduction of gendered and racialised hierarchies in online discussions of violence

2019

The article examines online discussions in Finland that focus on violence committed by Finnish women, on one hand, and non-white migrant men, on the other. Drawing on the perspective of sociology of value, the article illustrates how these discussions function as sites of struggles over moral worth in a contemporary context characterised by crises of both male and white hegemony. The authors suggest that, through the discussions, these current crises are projected on migrant men and certain groups of women, who thereby become construed as morally reprehensible. The analysis sheds light on processes of (re-)legitimating the moral virtue historically attached to both masculinity and whitenes…

Efficient stabilisation of a dihydrogenphosphate tetramer and a dihydrogenpyrophosphate dimer by a cyclic pseudopeptide containing 1,4-disubstituted …

2017

A cyclic pseudooctapeptide 2 is described containing 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole moieties. This compound features eight converging hydrogen bond donors along the ring, namely four amide NH and four triazole CH groups, which enable 2 to engage in interactions with anions. While fully deprotonated sulfate anions exhibit only moderate affinity for 2, protonated anions such as dihydrogenpyrophosphate and dihydrogenphosphate anions are strongly bound. Complexation of the phosphate-derived anions involves sandwiching of a dihydrogenpyrophosphate dimer or a dihydrogenphosphate tetramer between two pseudopeptide rings. X-ray crystallography provided structural information, while 1 H NMR spectr…
