Primary Mucosal Epithelial Cell Cultivation: A Reliable and Accelerated Isolation
2019
We illustrate a reliable and accelerated isolation routine for mucosal epithelial cells, which thereupon can be used for soft tissue engineering. This is highly important in the field of soft tissue engineering because mucosal equivalents are frequently usable in several surgical fields like gynecology, urology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, maxillofacial surgery, and many others. In this context the isolation of mucosal epithelial cells suitable for tissue engineering is mandatory. The reliable cultivation of mucosal or skin epithelial cells is challenging and there is currently no reproducible method. We demonstrate a solution for this problem by developing an accelerated and nevert…
Effects of Food Label Health and Nutrition Claims on Consumer Perceptions
2009
Two experiments are reported that examined consumers' perceptions of food package labels where health and nutrition claims were present and where they had been removed. Unlike previous studies examining the influence of information on perception, realistic materials were used. This was accomplished by presenting information on a computer as photo-realistic images of packages where claims had been removed by editing to give a without-claims condition. Automatic presentation of materials and data collection meant participants proceeded through the computer questionnaire without the presence of an experimenter. The experiment was conducted with both British and French consumers. No significant…

Neighbourhood socio-economic characteristics and the risk of preterm birth for migrant and non-migrant women: a study in a French district
2011
Neighbourhood-level deprivation is associated with preterm birth; preterm birth rates are also higher for some, but not all migrant groups. We studied the impact of neighbourhood characteristics (a deprivation score and the proportion of foreign-born residents) on singleton preterm birth in the French district of Seine-Saint-Denis for women born in France, North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and other countries. Multilevel logistic regression models were adjusted for maternal demographic and health care characteristics. For women born in France, the preterm birth rate rose with neighbourhood deprivation quintile (3.8% in the first to 5.7% in the fifth, adjusted odds ratio: 1.40 [95% confidence…
[Management of patients with lymphatic diseases and lipoedema during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recommendations of the Spanish Group of Lymphology].
2020
‘Celebrating diverse motherhood’: physically disabled women’s counter-narratives to their stigmatised identity as mothers
2018
This study examined how disabled women negotiated their stigmatised identity as mothers by presenting counter-narratives to the culturally dominant narrative of disabled motherhood. Eleven Finnish physically disabled mothers were interviewed. The data were analysed by focusing on these counter-narratives, their linguistic features and their functions in the interviews. The disabled mothers produced four types of counter-narratives about their motherhood experiences: (1) celebrating diverse motherhood through individual coping; (2) performing motherhood through collaborative caring; (3) boosting motherhood through praising one’s children; and (4) normalising (disabled women’s) motherhood thr…
Long-term home-based physiotherapy for persons with signs of frailty–RCT (NCT02305433)
2018
Introduction/Background Frailty is a multidimensional condition, which can lead to disability. To postpone long-term care, one alternative is home-based physiotherapy. We study the effects of a 12-month home-based physiotherapy program on functional capacity, and applying successive 12-month register follow-up, on the use and costs of social and health care services, and on the duration of living at home during 24 months (the primary outcome). Here we report about feasibility of the intervention and baseline characteristics. Material and method Three hundred home-dwelling persons (>65 y) with signs of frailty were recruited by September, 2016. Frailty was screened by Morley's FRAIL question…
Preferred Outcome Measures Used in Randomized Clinical Trials of Total Knee Replacement Rehabilitation: A Systematic Review.
2020
Objective To determine the most frequently used outcome measures in total knee replacement rehabilitation trials. Literature survey Systematic review of randomized trials searched in five databases: Web of Science, MEDical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, Scopus, and Cochrane Library. Methodology Trials were included if participants underwent total knee replacement rehabilitation and outcome measures were used to assess rehabilitation outcomes. A descriptive synthesis determined the frequency of using outcome measures and preferred assessment time points. Outcomes were classified into eight categories: patient- and clinician-reported function, perfo…
Vibroacoustic treatment for chronic pain and mood disorders in a specialized healthcare setting
2017
Much of what we know about vibroacoustic treatment and its efficacy has been published in case reports. Recent clinical trials have increased awareness and understanding of this treatment for people with Parkinson’s disease or Fibromyalgia Syndrome. There are no standardized protocols for using vibroacoustic treatment although research has focused on using 40Hz. The rehabilitation unit of [blinded] Central Hospital in [blinded] has used vibroacoustic treatment for more than two decades as part of specialized healthcare in the [blinded] healthcare district. Patient responses have been recorded using Visual Analog Scales showing positive outcomes on several measures including pain and mood. T…
Assessing the costs and cost-effectiveness of ICare internet-based interventions (protocol)
2019
Background: Mental health problems are common and place a burden on the individual as well as on societal resources. Despite the existence of evidence-based treatments, access to treatment is often prevented or delayed due to insufficient health care resources. Effective internet-based self-help interventions have the potential to reduce the risk for mental health problems, to successfully bridge waiting time for face-to-face treatment and to address inequities in access. However, little is known about the cost-effectiveness of such interventions. This paper describes the study protocol for the economic evaluation of the studies that form the ICare programme of internet-based interventions …
