Abstract To investigate the prospective relationships between individuals’ success expectation and task-avoidance, and their academic achievement and satisfaction, 231 students were examined yearly throughout their university careers in Study 1. It was found that students’ success expectation predicted academic achievement and satisfaction; which, in turn, increased their subsequent success expectation. Moreover, task-avoidance predicted low academic achievement and dissatisfaction, which again was predictive of subsequent task-avoidance. Abstract Task-irrelevant cognitions manifested by athletes engaged in competition may interfere with the course of an ongoing contest. The self-confrontation method was applied to 18 table tennis players ranging from intermediate to expert level. By means of this method, various types of interfering cognitions present during competition were registered and then tentatively assigned to content-related categories. The present study focuses on romantic stress and coping styles in the context of identity and future-related stressors in 8,654 adolescents with a mean age of M = 15.3; SD = 1.84. The adolescents from 17 countries were grouped into seven regions, i.e., Mid-Europe, Northern Europe, Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, South Africa, South America, and the Middle East. Future-related stressors were perceived as being more stressful than romantic stressors by all adolescents, irrespective of the region in which they lived. ABSTRACT This study explored how older women with chronic illness and disability experience their own health. Data were collected in in-depth interviews with ten older women with rheumatoid arthritis. Data analysis and interpretation was carried out within a phenomenological-hermeneutic frame of understanding, which revealed five major themes: health as coping with everyday life, health as freedom, health as absence of inconvenience, health as togetherness and health as mental well-being. This study set out to identify the kinds of achievement orientations that adolescents show, and to examine the kinds of antecedents and consequences the use of a particular orientation has. The participants were 734 Swedish adolescents (335 boys and 399 girls) who filled in questionnaires measuring their achievement beliefs and behaviors, depressive symptoms, engagement with school, and norm-breaking behavior. By using clustering-by-cases analysis, five achievement orientation groups were identified: optimism, defensive-pessimism, self-handicapping, and learned helplessness, and a group showing average levels of criteria variables. The function of the secretory core gene product (HBeAg) of the human hepatitis B virus (HBV) is unknown. It has been proposed that this protein may be passed from the mother to her offspring at the perinatal stage where it might induce immune tolerance. In a previous study we have shown that the murine placenta presents an efficient barrier for the HBe protein and that H-2(b) mice born to HBeAg-positive transgenic mothers do not develop tolerance of specific cytotoxic T cells. On the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem for multilinear mappings

Abstract We study the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobas property and the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobas property for numerical radius. Our main aim is to extend some known results about norm or numerical radius attaining operators to multilinear and polynomial cases. We characterize the pair ( l 1 ( X ) , Y ) to have the BPBp for bilinear forms and prove that on L 1 ( μ ) the numerical radius and the norm of a multilinear mapping are the same. We also show that L 1 ( μ ) fails the BPBp-nu for multilinear mappings although L 1 ( μ ) satisfies it in the operator case for every measure μ.
