1599 Peri- and Postoperative Complications of 215 Cases of Inguinal Hernia in Children

2012

Background The cure of inguinal hernia in children consists of high ligation of hernial sac, generally evolving with few complications. Aim The evaluation of casuistry structure and evaluation of peri- and postoperative complications in children. Method Retrospective analytical study for a period of three years includes case studies which required high ligation of the hernia sac (procesus vaginalis). Results The 214 cases were stratified according to: Location: left side 29 hernias (13.5%); bilateral 4 (1.8%); right side 181 (84.5%) cases; Age: 1–3 years, 70 (32.7%); 4–6 years, 71 (33.1%); 7–12 years, 62 (28.9%); 13–18 years, 11 cases (5.1%); During hospitalization: ≤ 3 days, 65 (30.3%); 4–…

Svarīgāko klīnisko faktoru ietekme uz pacientu ārstēšanas rezultātu pie spontānām intracerebrālām hematomām

2018

Spontānas intracerebrālas hematomas sastāda 15% no visiem insultiem pieaugušo vecumā, bet šīs pataloģijas letalitāte pirmā mēneša laikā atbilst 40%. Pēdējās vadlīnijas (2015. gada) saglabājas daudz neskaidru jautājumu par optimālo terapiju, izvēles taktiku intracerebrālas hematomas ārstēšanā. Pētījuma mērķis: uzlabot pacientu stāvokļa novērtēšanu un attiecīgās ārstēšanas pielāgošanu pacientiem. Pētījuma rezultāti: Funkcionālais iznākums korelē ar GKS(r=0,5), spontānas intracerebrālas hematomas tilpumu (r=0,4) un smadzeņu viduslīnijas dislokācija (r=0,3). Spontānas intracerebrālas hematomas tilpums (p<0,0001), smadzeņu viduslīnijas dislokācija (p<0,0001), intraventrikulārās hemorāģijas esamī…

Hematoma epidural lumbar crónico espontáneo

2005

Epidural hematoma after cochlear implantation in a 2.5-year-old boy.

2005

OBJECTIVE Report a case of an epidural hematoma after cochlear implantation in a 2.5-year-old boy, the diagnostic and therapeutical emergency management, as well as the postinterventional course and rehabilitation of the child. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective case review. PATIENT Two and a half-year-old boy, suffering from early onset, profound sensorineural hearing loss had been diagnosed at an age of 1.5 years, which had been more severe on the right side initially, but had progressed to bilateral deafness. INTERVENTION AND COMPLICATION: Cochlear implantation on the left side, followed up by an extensive epidural hematoma, causing intracranial compression with a midline shift of 15 mm to the r…

The Role of Endoscopy in the Treatment of Acute Traumatic Anterior Epidural Hematoma of the Cervical Spine: Case Report

1997

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: Epidural hematoma (EDH) of the spine represents an uncommon neurosurgical disorder that sometimes requ;res emergent surgical decompressive therapy. Traumatic EDH of the cervical spine is exceedingly rare. The hematoma is usually located dorsally in the epidural space. We present one case of acute EDH located ventrally in the cervical spine. Special emphasis is placed on the role of spinal endoscopy in surgical treatment. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: After a fall from a tree, a 69-year-old man with rapidly increasing tetraparesis was referred to our institution. Plain films of the cervical spine revealed nothing abnormal. The results of computed tomography were highly sus…

Ileus following spontaneous jejunum intramural hematoma: case report and review of the literature.

2013

Anticoagulant therapy may cause the onset of a spontaneous intramural hema- toma of the small bowel, in the jejunum, ileum or duodenum. A 53-year-old woman on therapy with heparin for previous pulmonary embolism was admitted for abdominal pain and vomit. Computed tomography scan visualized an intramural hematoma of the jejunum causing subtotal obstruction of the intestinal lumen. The patient underwent resection of a part of the jejunum, securing intestinal continuity by a mechanical side-to-side anastomosis. The postoperative course was regular, but the initial anticoagulant therapy was reduced to prevent recurrence. In conclusion, spontaneous hema- toma of small bowel can occur as a compli…

Second trimester uterine arteries pulsatility index is a function of placental pathology and provides insights on stillbirth aetiology: A multicenter…

2022

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between maternal vascular malperfusions (MVM) and second trimester uterine arteries pulsatility index (UtA-PI) in cases of stillbirth (SB), compared to live-birth (LB) matched controls. Methods: This was a multicentre, observational, matched case-control study performed at five referral maternity centres over a 4-year period including SB and LB control pregnancies at high-risk for preeclampsia (PE) and/or fetal growth restriction (FGR), matched and stratified for UtA-PI MoM quartiles values of the SB cases. Logistic regression was used to assess the rates of each MVM finding, within each increasing MoM quartile subcate…

<title>Noninvasive detection of intracerebral hemorrhage using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)</title>

1998

Intracerebral Hemorrhage (IH) is an important cause of secondary brain injury in neurosurgical patients. Early identification and treatment improve neurologic outcome. We have tested Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) as an alternative noninvasive diagnostic tool compared to CT-Scans to detect IH. We prospectively studied 212 patients with neurologic symptoms associated with intracranial pathology before performing a CT-scan. NIRS signals indicated pathologies in 181 cases (sensitivity 0.96; specificity 0.29). In a subgroup of subdural hematomas NIRS detected 45 of 46 hematomas (sensitivity 0.96; specificity 0.79). Identification of intracerebral hemorrhage using NIRS has the potential to al…
