Wound drainages in total hip arthroplasty: to use or not to use? Review of the literature on current practice.
2013
Aim of this study is to analyze data reported in literature concerning the efficacy of using wound low-vacuum suction drainages in orthopedic surgery after total hip arthroplasty. We analyzed studies concerning the use of drainages in prosthetic hip replacement surgery, performing our research through Pubmed, Cochrane database and Google Scholar, and selecting the ones evaluating the following parameters: bleeding, the need for blood transfusions, number or reinforcement of post-operative medications, length of hospitalization, functional results, periprosthetic and surgical wound infection, post-operative hematoma. Our review did not show any demonstrated advantage from the use of wound dr…
Comparative analysis of fibrinolytic properties of Alteplase, Tenecteplase and Urokinase in an in vitro clot model of intracerebral haemorrhage.
2020
Abstract Objective Hematoma lysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) has emerged as an alternative therapy for spontaneous intracerebral and intraventricular haemorrhage (ICH and IVH). However, the MISTIE III and CLEAR III trial failed to show significant improvement of favourable outcomes. Besides experimental and clinical trials revealed neurotoxic effects of rtPA. The demand for optimization of fibrinolytic therapy persists. Herein, we used our recently devised clot model of ICH to systematically analyse fibrinolytic properties of rtPA, tenecteplase and urokinase. Methods In vitro clots of human blood (size: 25 ml and 50 ml; age: 1.5 tenecteplase, 24 tenecteplase and 48…
Radiologic and Intraoperative Finding of Intimal Tear in Type A Intramural Hematoma of the Aorta
2019
AbstractAortic intramural hematoma (IMH) is described as “dissection without intimal tear” due to rhexis of vasa vasorum, which results in bleeding within the tunica media in the absence of intimal disruption or blood flow communication. The aim of our study is to validate perioperative evidence of intimal entry tear in IMH patients and to suggest that this entity may represent a part of a disease and not a separate disease.
Evidence of intimal tear in type A intramural hematoma of the aorta: A case series
2017
Highlights • We report two cases of type A intramural hematoma of the aorta. • We found radiological and intraoperative evidence of an intimal tear. • This finding supports the hypotesis that IMH belong to “aortic dissection” disease.
Floor of the mouth hemorrhage subsequent to dental implant placement in the anterior mandible
2019
Abstract Complications in dental implant surgery are possible. Bleeding complications have been described that may be serious, particularly in the floor of the mouth. We present two cases of sublingual hematomas during dental implant osteotomies that impeded but did not close the airway. The clinical courses of these patient’s complications are reviewed. One patient had immediate hematoma formation while the other developed a hematoma overnight, presenting the next day. The treatment rendered was a precautionary in-hospital tracheotomy for the first patient and only compression control for the second. Bleeding complications during dental implant placement in the anterior mandible can be ser…
Galvaskausa lūzuma cēloņi, komplikācijas un ārstēšanas iespējas bērniem
2018
Darba pamatojums. Galvaskausa lūzumus izraisa tiešs trieciens pa kalvāriju, un visbiežāk tiek skarti velves kauli. Traumas visbiežāk rodas sadzīves negadījumos, piemēram, kritieni no ķermeņa augstuma vai tieša objekta krietiena uz galvas. Visbiežāk tiek skarts paura un pakauša kauls. Ļoti bieži sastopamas galvaskausa lūzumu komplikācijas, visbiežāk raksturīgas hematomas un smadzeņu satricinājums. Ķirurģisku iejaukšanos veic ļoti sarežģītos gadījumos, tāpēc konservatīva terapija tiek izmantota biežāk. Darba mērķis: Noskaidrot biežākos galvaskausa lūzuma iemeslus, vecumu kādā tiek gūtas traumas, izraisītās komplikācijas un ārstēšanas metodes bērniem līdz 18 gadiem Latvijā. Materiāli un metode…
Ileus Following Spontaneous Jejunum Intramural Hematoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature
2012
Anticoagulant therapy may cause the onset of a spontaneous intramural hematoma of the small bowel, in the jejunum, ileum or duodenum. A 53-year-old woman on therapy with heparin for previous pulmonary embolism was admitted for abdominal pain and vomit. Computed tomography scan visualized an intramural hematoma of the jejunum causing subtotal obstruction of the intestinal lumen. The patient underwent resection of a part of the jejunum, securing intestinal continuity by a mechanical side-to-side anastomosis. The postoperative course was regular, but the initial anticoagulant therapy was reduced to prevent recurrence. In conclusion, spontaneous hematoma of small bowel can occur as a complicati…
Hroniskas subdurālas hematomas klīnika, diagnostika, ārstēšana
2015
Management of Blood Pressure and Heart Rate in Patients with Acute Stroke
2017
BACKGROUND: Stroke represent one of the most devastating of all neurological diseases, affecting about 15 million people per year and is an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and currently the leading cause of adult disability in developed countries. Blood pressure and heart rate may undergo several modifications in patients with both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in fact raised blood pressure levels may lead to cerebral edema, hematoma expansion or hemorrhagic transformation and in contrast low blood pressure can lead to increased cerebral infarction or perihematomal ischemia. In addition, ECG abnormalities and cardiac arrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation, are re…
