A painless treatment undergoing Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy
2004
Background: Postoperative pain associated with Milligan Morgan haemorrhoidectomy (MMIf) remains problematic. Most patients complaint a severe pain on defecation and in the 1st postoperative week because of secondary infection a fid sphincter spasm. We studied the effect of metronida zole, lactulose and glyceryl-trinitrate on pain after MMH. Method: Thirty patients were randomly assigned to two groups. The 1st received a treatment with oral laxative (lac- tulose 66,7%) metronidazole and a topical glyceryl-trinitrate ointment at 0,2% both pre and postoperative; the 2nd received a placebo at the same dosage. The amount of pain in the 1st week and at the time of two defecation, postoperative an…

Internal sphincterotomy reduces postoperative pain after Milligan Morgan haemorrhoidectomy
2009
Abstract Background Over the last few years, there has been increasing attention on surgical procedures to treat haemorrhoids. The Milligan-Morgan haemorrhoidectomy is still one of the most popular surgical treatments of haemorrhoids. The aim of the present work is to assess postoperative pain, together with other early and late complications, after Milligan-Morgan haemorrhoidectomy as we could observe in our experience before and after performing an internal sphincterotomy. Methods from January 1980 to May 2007, we operated 850 patients, but only 699 patients (median age 53) were included in the present study because they satisfied our inclusion criteria. The patients were divided into two…
I MOMENTI STORICI DI UNA FREQUENTE PATOLOGIA ANALE: LE EMORROIDI
2004
In this report the authors outline the main historical aspects of haemorrhoids after a thorough review of the literature. The first texts concerning haemorrhoids are the ancient Egyptian papyruses. The twenty centuries of the history of haemorrhoids are marked by multiple pathogenetic theories, and of these the vascular and the sliding of the anal mucosa are still valid. From an analysis of the historical texts and the most recent publications, we deduce that the principles of therapy are substantially unchanged since the days of Hippocrates. In conclusion, we can say that, as in ancient times, the therapy of haemorrhoids is based on three fundamental approaches: surgical treatment, ambulat…
Pacientu apmierinātība pēc Longo operācijas
2020
The potential link between episodes of diverticulitis or hemorrhoidal proctitis and diets with selected plant foods : a case-control study
2021
Diverticulitis and hemorrhoidal proctitis in the population are significant public health problems. We studied the potential association between the intake of certain plant foods and diverticulitis or hemorrhoidal episodes through a case–control study including 410 cases and 401 controls. We used a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. The intake was additionally quantified according to a 24 h recall. The plant foods or derived food products were categorized by their main chemical components into ethanol, caffeine/theine/theobromine, capsaicin, alliin, acids, eugenol, and miscellaneous foods such as curcumin. The mean score for overall intake of plant foods under consideration was …
Correlation between chronic prostatitis syndrome and pelvic venous disease: a survey of 2,554 urologic outpatients.
2000
Objectives: In this study we evaluated the association between chronic prostatitis syndrome (CPS), varicocele and hemorrhoids as manifestations of a pelvic venous disease. Methods: Our retrospective study was based upon 2554 patients treated in two general urology clinics over the past 10 years. We have assessed the incidence of CPS among urological patients. Results: We found 483 patients with CPS, representing 18.9% of the total number of visits at the outpatient clinic. In this group the percentage of varicocele and hemorrhoids was 14.69 and 8.48%, whereas in a control group these figures were 5.02 and 5.84%, respectively (p < 0.001 and 0.1054). Such a difference is statistically sign…
Polypoid anal melanoma. A case report and review of the literature
2016
Ano-rectal melanoma is an uncommon finding in patients complaining of rectal bleeding and/or anal mass often misinterpreted as a haemorroidal pile.A 55-years-old woman, complaining of rectal bleeding, frequent anal pain and anal mass suspected for haemorroidal thrombosis was referred for evaluation and possible treatment. A brown polypoid mass arising from the anal canal/lower rectum with a maximum diameter of 6 cm was diagnosed. The hystological examination of the neoplasm, transanally removed, revealed the presence of a polypoid melanoma partially involving the resection margin. Nor metastases nor limph-node involvement were found at the total-body CT scan and at a CT-PET. C-KIT examinati…

The management of postoperative pain after hemorrhoidectomy: Analysis of three methodics
2012
Postoperative pain is one of the most common and disabling complications following hemorrhoidectomy. This study divided a total of 90 patients, undergone Milligan and Morgan hemorrhoidectomy, in three groups of 30 patient: Group A, undergone internal sphincterotomy after hemorrhoidectomy; Group B, treated with Diosmin 500 mg; Group C, treated with Paracetamol 1000 mg when required. The analysis of the median VAS score (Visual Analogic Scale) of postoperative pain, in every group pointed out a relationship between postoperative pain reduction and time at the three set checkpoints (1st, 3rd, 9th postoperative day) (R2= 0.9231 for Group A; R2= 0.9423 for group B; R2= 0.9423 for group C). Mean …
