Digital Technologies for Cultural Heritage Preservation. A case study.

2014

Within the study and knowledge of Cultural Heritage, the Virtual Restoration represents an innovative technical-scientific sector that involves the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) within traditional and well-established methodologies. The study illustrates a practical experience carried out on a cycle of sculptural works made in stucco that currently shows a number of fragmentary and disjointed parts. In this research a methodological approach is described, whose aim was to build a 3D model and formulate an hypothesis of virtual recomposition of the fragments. In addition, it provided useful geometrical-formal support tools both for the physical-material restoration…

Damage Indices and Photogrammetry for Decay Assessment of Stone-Built Cultural Heritage: The Case Study of the San Domenico Church Main Entrance Port…

2020

In recent decades, increasing attention is being paid to the multidisciplinary approach that allows the performance of both a preventive conservation and a more invasive restoration action. In this context, the present study aims to acquire information and data from field surveys undertaken in San Domenico Church, Southern Calabria, in order to provide a tool for the recording and the inventory of damage and decay phenomena, and assess their causes and scale. The subsequent calculation of damage indices also provided useful information in order to allow the prioritization of conservation and preservation responses.

Problems with variation: an educational experience of cultural transposition with prospective primary teachers

2022

The paper presents some theoretical reflections and some methodological notes about a Professional Development (PD) path worked out during the last two years by Italian researchers for prospective Primary teachers. The theoretical construct of Cultural Transposition defines the framework of the PD path's activities and the related research. It was used to define an interesting cultural lent to delineate possible new approaches for effective pre-service teacher education programs, in particular for the Primary level. The defined methodology was based on the possibility to reflect about the decentralization of didactic practices based on a specific cultural context through one or more contact…

Il progetto indispensabile per il costruito archeologico

2021

Deep Learning and Cultural Heritage: The CEPROQHA Project Case Study

2019

Cultural heritage takes an important part of the history of humankind as it is one of the most powerful tools for the transfer and preservation of moral identity. As a result, these cultural assets are considered highly valuable and sometimes priceless. Digital technologies provided multiple tools that address challenges related to the promotion and information access in the cultural context. However, the large data collections of cultural information have more potential to add value and address current challenges in this context with the recent progress in artificial intelligence (AI) with deep learning and data mining tools. Through the present paper, we investigate several approaches tha…

Can Interactive Mediation Tools Bridge the Identity Gap Between the Public and the Art Museum?

2015

International audience; Consumer behaviour in the field of art museums appears to be influenced both by the identity of the public and the art museum and by the context. It is a matter not of changing museum content, but of bringing its identity closer to that of the public in order to promote access to art. The authors first present the theoretical and conceptual framework for their research and then suggest a qualitative methodological approach to addressing the issues described in the results.; La conducta del consumidor en los museos de arte parece estar influenciada tanto por la identidad del público y del museo como por el contexto. No se trata de cambiar el contenido del museo, pero …

"Historical pigments characterisation by quantitative X-ray fluorescence"

2014

Abstract Most of the historical paints are mainly constituted by inorganic pigments, either pure or mixed, spread on the surfaces using different binding agents. The knowledge of the exact amount of different constituents of the paint, as well as of the mixing and pictorial techniques, is crucial for a careful program of conservation of polychrome works. Moreover, since the availability of these pigments has been changing through the centuries, their identification and chemical characterisation is useful to acquire or deepen information about the artist and his/her work. This information can also be useful for authentication purposes through relative dating because the identification of one…

IL CONTRIBUTO PRESENTA I RISULTATI DI UN’ESPERIENZA FORMATIVA CONDOTTA CON IL FESTIVAL “LE VIE DEI TESORI” NELL’AMBITO DELLA RAPPRESENTAZIONE MULTIMEDIALE PER LA COMUNICAZIONE DEI BENI CULTURALI. IL FESTIVAL APRE OGNI ANNO AL PUBBLICO CENTINAIA DI LUOGHI IN GRAN PARTE CHIUSI. PER ALCUNI DI ESSI GLI ALLIEVI HANNO REALIZZATO PRODOTTI MULTIMEDIALI DESTINATI AL SITO WEB DEL FESTIVAL CHE CONSENTONO L’ESPERIENZA VIRTUALE IN ASSENZA DI QUELLA FISICA. ATTRAVERSO GLI STRUMENTI DELLA RAPPRESENTAZIONE SI COMUNICA IL LUOGO E IL LINGUAGGIO MULTIMEDIALE ADOTTATO RENDE COMPRENSIBILE IL PROCESSO RAPPRESENTATIVO. THE PAPER PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF A TRAINING EXPERIENCE CARRIED OUT WITH THE FESTIVAL “LE VIE D…
