The contribution is part of the study and experimentation of multimedia communication, virtual anal…

2020
The paper analyzes the unpublished photographic documentation in the box n. 111 of the Accascina Fund, stored in the Sicilian Regional Library of Palermo. This unknown archival heritage is crucial in order to trace the artistic aspects of the first rural villages built in Sicily in 1940, following the law for the colonization of the Sicilian rural areas. Through the analysis of these photos, the decorative works that were found in these villages are identified: today most of them no longer exist and, in some cases, there is no other evidence. In this way, the contribution aims to give value to the lost artistic heri- tage and, indirectly, to this part of the Fund. In addition, it seeks to d…
2019
The present reflection aims to investigate the critical Ruskin of society, making a comparison between two historical moments of the time in which it acts and the contemporary era, both phases of transition. Today Ruskin's thought expresses an extraordinary modernity for the new concept of heritage as a common good, just as art according to the scholar was for everyone because for all it was necessary; for the resumption of a craftsmanship compared to the standardization of the processes, characterizing the twentieth century, against which Ruskin has always fought. The action of the civil war of which the work of Ruskin and the SPAB was first-born and brilliant testimony seems today, after …
Culture and urban regeneration: the role of the European Union regional policy
2008
During the last two decades several European cities have changed significantly their social, economic and institutional identity. This changing is the effect of a long term process of economic restructuring after the decline of the Fordist regime and the rising of the globalization. The policy of economic regeneration and the re-scaling of city’s political economy within the inter-urban and regional competion is one of the most relevant consequence of this process. It is universally recognized that the strategies for the transformation of an old industrial city into a service-based ones require not only interventions on the “hard factors” but also on the “soft factors” of urban development:…
The Creativity of Cultural Heritages and Landscapes. Redevelopment Experiences Compared
2019
Italian cultural heritage – both material and immaterial - represents an extraordinary resource of economic growth, production, cohesion and social inclusion for the country. This priceless heritage, recognized around the world, is not adequately valued, understood or shared. It is often unutilized and left in a state of total abandonment and degradation. Enhancement and protection of the cultural heritage and landscape could instead feed the development potential of the territories, activate a sustainable economy, improve the quality of life of communities, create wealth that is not only economic but also beautiful; the same beauty that makes the country among the most loved and visited in…
Before web-marketing: digital tour landscapes from relational users
2016
Online visibility of a cultural site can be considered a strong indicator of the institutional ability to activate the cultural heritage. With the spread of the Internet into social practices of millions of people, the search for contents relating to a travel destination or a specific monument, has gradually shifted in terms of strategic influence from traditional channels to online information resources. The public opinion on the quality of cultural heritages or events depends less and less from the assessment of traditional agencies and it is instead increasingly dependent on user reviews and rankings based on social network sharing activities.
