Renaissance Itineraries between Nebrodi and Peloritani: Architectural Heritage, History and Technology
2022
Within the general framework of a research Project of Relevant National Interest (PRIN 2017), entitled “The Renaissance in Southern Italy and the Islands: Cultural Heritage and Technology”, the research unit based at Palermo University focused on the inner area that includes Nebrodi and Peloritani mountains, as a quite unexplored and stimulating environment in the specific field of investigation. The scientific relevance of the investigation on “Renaissance itineraries” in this territory, for a deeper understanding of the overall cultural phenomenon in the island, guided this choice, as well as the opportunity to create cultural networks among small local communities, encouraging their sust…
Digital Representation of Urban Changes: Fragments of the Medieval Palermo
2018
In June 2015, the serial heritage site “Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale” was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Maredolce Castle and the Scibene Palace, owing to the loss of original elements or due to problems of conservation and function, once resolved, cannot be part of the itinerary. This text proposes a new reading of the configuration of the sites of the monuments analysed. It looks at important moments in their history and represents the modifications made over time. A digital model of the current situation was developed using information assumed from the Carta Tecnica Comunale (Municipal Technical Map). This document served as a start…
INDAGINI DIAGNOSTICHE PROPEDEUTICHE AL RESTAURO DELLA SALA DEI VENTI DI PALAZZO DEI NORMANNI A PALERMO
2019

CGCG 480-022: A Distant Lonesome Merger?
2006
[EN]We present a complete analysis, which includes morphology, kinematics, stellar populations, and N-body simulations, of CGCG 480-022, the most distant (cz = 14,317 km s-1) isolated galaxy studied so far in such detail. The results all support the hypothesis that this galaxy has suffered a major merger event with a companion of ~0.1 times its mass. Morphology reveals the presence of a circumnuclear ring and possibly further ring debris. The radial velocity curve looks symmetrical, while the velocity dispersion increases with radius, reaching values that do not correspond to a virialized system. Moreover, this galaxy deviates significantly from the fundamental plane and the Faber-Jackson r…
Some Considerations on the Sustainable Urban Development in Romania
2015
Abstract (Promoting an integrated approach is important for sustainable urban development. Most priorities identified during 2007-2013 were not achieved due to the global financial crisis, but also because of the lack of mature projects concerning regional development. As during the previous period, much development needs remain unresolved, including the level of high pollution in the urban areas, vacant, unused and degraded urban areas corresponding to the cities of Romania, as well as valuable resources of cultural heritage which are poorly capitalized. ROP continues during 2014-2020 with a strategic vision on regional development in Romania, contained in the 2007-2013 National Developmen…
Forme del fritto: alcune esperienze di consumo
2020
2014
The parochial church of Santa Águeda in Sotillo de la Ribera, located in the province of Burgos, Spain is the object of the works of graphical documentation using different methods of survey, which provide a material with different levels of precision, here analysed and confronted. The value of documentation of buildings never surveyed before, enables a much more thorough formal analysis and offers the possibility of contrasting cases with similar features within the territory. The supplementary value added by the knowledge of measures of ancient architectures means a useful tool for their study and, along with formal and historic studies supplies enough elements to obtain a revalorization …
Risorse culturali, ambientali e turismo sostenibile
2019
Sustainability tourism requires the ability to integrate the natural, cultural and human environment, respecting the fragile balance that characterizes the territories, in order to ensure an appropriate evolution as regards the capacity to mitigate the anthropic impact, and that it knows assess their effects on cul…
Towards a Sustainable Use of Architectural Heritage: How to Assess Accessibility and the User’s Role
2022
Scientific communities and institutional bodies are supporting many shared efforts towards improving accessibility to architectural heritage, in the awareness that it provides the basis for inclusion and enhancement. Accessibility is related to the wider tendency toward a conscious and sustainable use of the architectural heritage, considered as a multifaceted tool for its conservation. This has also highlighted the user’s role, which is paramount in order to reach and increase sustainable processes in the field of architectural heritage, as well as in all the technological processes. The user should be active in his/her relationships with the built heritage, in a multi-sensorial way and in…
