Primitive sets of words

2020

Given a (finite or infinite) subset $X$ of the free monoid $A^*$ over a finite alphabet $A$, the rank of $X$ is the minimal cardinality of a set $F$ such that $X \subseteq F^*$. We say that a submonoid $M$ generated by $k$ elements of $A^*$ is {\em $k$-maximal} if there does not exist another submonoid generated by at most $k$ words containing $M$. We call a set $X \subseteq A^*$ {\em primitive} if it is the basis of a $|X|$-maximal submonoid. This definition encompasses the notion of primitive word -- in fact, $\{w\}$ is a primitive set if and only if $w$ is a primitive word. By definition, for any set $X$, there exists a primitive set $Y$ such that $X \subseteq Y^*$. We therefore call $Y$…

Generation patterns, modified $\gamma-Z$ mixing, and hidden sector with dark matter candidates as framed standard model results

2018

A descriptive summary is given of the results to-date from the framed standard model (FSM) which: Assigns geometric meaning to the Higgs field and to fermion generations, hence offering an explanation for the observed mass and mixing patterns of quarks and leptons, reproducing near-quantitatively 17 of SM parameters with only 7. Predicts a new vector boson [Formula: see text] which mixes with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], leading to deviations from the SM mixing scheme. For [Formula: see text] TeV, these deviations are within present experimental errors but should soon be detectable at LHC when experimental accuracy is further improved. Suggests the existence of a hidden sec…

The experimental facility for the Search for Hidden Particles at the CERN SPS

2019

The Search for Hidden Particles (SHiP) Collaboration has shown that the CERN SPS accelerator with its 400 $\mathrm{\small GeV/c}$ proton beam offers a unique opportunity to explore the Hidden Sector. The proposed experiment is an intensity frontier experiment which is capable of searching for hidden particles through both visible decays and through scattering signatures from recoil of electrons or nuclei. The high-intensity experimental facility developed by the SHiP collaboration is based on a number of key features and developments which provide the possibility of probing a large part of the parameter space for a wide range of models with light long-lived superweakly interacting particles…

Exposing the dark sector with future Z factories

2017

We investigate the prospects of searching dark sector models via exotic Z-boson decay at future e⁺e⁻ colliders with Giga Z and Tera Z options. Four general categories of dark sector models, Higgs portal dark matter, vector-portal dark matter, inelastic dark matter, and axionlike particles, are considered. Focusing on channels motivated by the dark sector models, we carry out a model-independent study of the sensitivities of Z factories in probing exotic decays. The limits on branching ratios of the exotic Z decay are typically O(10⁻⁶–10⁻[superscript 8.5]) for the Giga Z and O(10⁻[superscript 7.5]–10⁻¹¹) for the Tera Z, and they are compared with the projection for the high luminosity LHC. W…

Cooperative RTS/CTS MAC with relay selection in distributed wireless networks

2009

This paper proposes a cooperative multiple access protocol based on the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) Request-To-Send/Clear-To-Send (RTS/CTS) scheme for distributed wireless networks. It answers three key questions concerning cooperation from the network perspective, namely when to cooperate, whom to cooperate with and how to protect cooperative transmissions. According to our protocol, the cooperation is initiated only if the direct transmission fails. An optimal relay node is selected in a distributed manner according to instantaneous relay channel conditions without prior information or extra signaling among relay candidates in the network. An additional three-way handshake is …

A new Multi-Layers Method to Analyze Gene Expression

2007

In the paper a new Multi-Layers approach (called Multi-Layers Model MLM) for the analysis of stochastic signals and its application to the analysis of gene expression data is presented. It consists in the generation of sub-samples from the input signal by applying a threshold technique based on cut-set optimal conditions. The MLM has been applied on synthetic and real microarray data for the identification of particular regions across DNA called nucleosomes and linkers. Nucleosomes are the fundamental repeating subunits of all eukaryotic chromatin, and their positioning provides useful information regarding the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotic cells. Results have shown a good rec…

Kaiken keskellä : keskijohto strategisen muutoksen tekijänä ja kokijana

2018

This research focuses on the actions and perceptions of the middle managers during a strategic change. Over the years, strategic change and middle managers have been studied from various points of view. The importance of middle managers and their roles and actions have been argued both for and against. Most of the recent research emphasises the middle managers’ importance in strategic organizational change as mediators between the change initiators and the change recipients. However, there is less research on middle managers’ and subordinates’ sensemaking processes during a strategic organizational change, especially when identity, culture, artefacts, emotions and change resistance are cons…
