Ammatillisen koulutuksen ja korkeakoulutuksen opintourat

2012

Julkaisun tarkoituksena on avata uusia näkökulmia ajankohtaiseen koulutuspoliittiseen keskusteluun opintourista. Raportissa tarkastellaan Tilastokeskuksen laajojen rekisteriaineistojen pohjalta opintouratyyppien ja koulutuksellisten siirtymien yleisyyttä ammatillisen toisen asteen peruskoulutuksessa ja korkeakoulutuksessa (ammattikorkeakouluissa ja yliopistoissa). Erilaisilla opintouratyypeillä tarkoitetaan opintojen keskeyttämistä, viivästymistä, valmistumista sekä koulutuksen vaihtoa koulutusasteelta, -sektorilta ja alalta toiselle. Tutkimus kohdistuu koulutussektoreittain eri aloittajakohortteihin, joiden opintouria seurattiin koko opiskeluajan. Rekistereistä poimittiin kultakin koulutus…

Epistemic network analyses of economics students' graph understanding. An eye-tracking study

2020

Learning to solve graph tasks is one of the key prerequisites of acquiring domain-specific knowledge in most study domains. Analyses of graph understanding often use eye-tracking and focus on analyzing how much time students spend gazing at particular areas of a graph&mdash

Understanding the challenges of rapid digital transformation : the case of COVID-19 pandemic in higher education

2021

Rapid digital transformation is taking place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing organisations and higher educational institutions to change their working and learning culture. This study explores the challenges of rapid digital transformation arising during the pandemic in the higher education context. This research used the Q-methodology to understand the nine challenges that higher education encountered, perceived differently as four main patterns: (1) Digital-nomad enterprise; (2) Corporate-collectivism; (3) Well-being-oriented; and (4) Pluralistic. This study broadens the current understanding of digital transformation, especially in higher education. The nine challenges and four pat…

Challenges and trends in comparative higher education: an editorial

2013

[Introduction] International comparative higher education research has proliferated since its institutionalization as an interdisciplinary field in the 1960s and 1970s (Jarausch 1985) and has gained special momentum in the 1990s (Teichler 1996). On the one hand, the benefits of comparative research approaches in international higher education have been repeatedly emphasized (Altbach and Kelly 1985; Teichler 1996; Rhoades 2001). These include, for example, increasing the capacity to generalize about a greater number of units under analysis, the capacity of a systematic comparison to illuminate the dynamics of a particular system better than a single-system study as well as highlighting knowl…

Higher Education and Global Social Injustice

2020

This dissertation, composed of three unique scholarly articles, explores some of the ways in which institutions of higher education facilitate and mitigate social injustice on a global scale. Specifically analyzing the behavior of administrative actors—defined as those that serve in a leadership role outside of the classroom—the purpose of the research was twofold. Firstly, I aimed to identify the mechanisms by which administrative actors at U.S. and Finnish institutions of higher education legitimized and rationalized their involvement in globally unjust educational practices. Secondly, I sought to identify the ways in which administrative actors in these economically privileged countries …

University education in Spain and the European Union: Economic effects and social contributions

2018
