Ladoix-Serrigny (Côte-d’Or). Chapelle Notre-Dame du Chemin [notice archéologique]
2019
The Relocation of the Canons Regular Monastery in Żagań as an Element in the Reform of Interior Life
2019
The location in which a church was based played an important role in the life of religious communities in the Middle Ages. Interactions with society and the mutual influence of a monastery on the surrounding societies could support or inhibit the development of an abbey. There were situations when monks were moved to serve in different locations. In Silesia, we have two examples of canons regular monasteries. Both the monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wrocław and the convent of Żagań were originally located in other places. As described in the monastery chronicle, the transfer of the monastery from Nowogród Bobrzański to Żagań in 1284 was an event that opened new opportunities and per…

Engaging with feedback: How do students remediate errors on their weekly quiz
2018
International audience; Maths for Business is a first-year mathematics module for approximately 500 non-mathematics specialists. It has continuous assessment consisting of ten weekly quizzes, worth 40% of the final mark. In 2016/17, students who did not receive the maximum five marks on their weekly quiz were offered the opportunity to resubmit their quiz, with correction(s) and an explanation of their error(s), for one additional mark. We refer to this process as ‘remediation'. In this paper, we examine how students remediate their errors in order to identify features of a ‘good' remediation. These features are identification, description, and correction of errors. By analysing a subset of…
Coordinating action in technology-supported shared tasks: Virtual pointing as a situated practice for mobilizing a response
2021
Drawing on recordings of remote screen-based work meetings in Finland, this conversation analytic study investigates interactive properties of mouse cursor movements in technology-mediated shared tasks. The article illustrates how participants rely on features afforded by the input device in ways that divert from its pre-designed functions to accomplish virtual pointing gestures. These gestures serve as an organizational resource in the precursory phase of action, i.e. when a next on-screen action is observably made relevant. In this sequential environment, pointing by means of the tool is a collaborative resource: an embodied practice for sustaining co-orientation and advancing the sequent…

Obraz "Tragedii Górnośląskiej" we współczesnych reportażach
2017
Autorka analizuje reportaże literackie, radiowe i telewizyjne podejmujące problematykę represji i zbr…
Mathematical monuments in Finland
2021
With “mathematical monuments” we mean either monuments for famous mathematicians and their achievements or works of art representing mathematical objects in public places. We present a panoply of such monuments in Finland for the purposes of the mathematical tourist visiting our country. As we are interested in symbolic representations of science, we take a broad view of the notion of “monument” and take into account also some minor artefacts, such as portraits, medals and stamps, and other semiotic signs, such as street names and commemorative plates, illustrating some highlights of the history of mathematics in Finland.
