D-Meson Azimuthal Anisotropy in Midcentral Pb-Pb Collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV
2018
The azimuthal anisotropy coefficient v 2 of prompt D 0 , D + , D * + , and D + s mesons was measured in midcentral (30%–50% centrality class) Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair √ s N N = 5.02 TeV , with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The D mesons were reconstructed via their hadronic decays at midrapidity, | y | < 0.8 , in the transverse momentum interval 1 < p T < 24 GeV / c . The measured D -meson v 2 has similar values as that of charged pions. The D + s v 2 , measured for the first time, is found to be compatible with that of nonstrange D mesons. The measurements are compared with theoretical calculations of charm-quark transport in a hydrodynamically e…
Measurement of azimuthal correlations of D mesons with charged particles in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV
2017
The azimuthal correlations of D mesons with charged particles were measured with the ALICE apparatus in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. D0, D+, and D∗+ mesons and their charge conjugates with transverse momentum 3 0.3 GeV/c. The yield of charged particles in the correlation peak induced by the jet containing the D meson and the peak width are compatible within uncertainties in the two collision systems. The data are described within uncertainties by Monte-Carlo simulations based on PYTHIA, POWHEG, and EPOS 3 event generators. peerReviewed

Hard diffraction in photoproduction with Pythia 8
2019
We present a new framework for modeling hard diffractive events in photoproduction, implemented in the general purpose event generator Pythia 8. The model is an extension of the model for hard diffraction with dynamical gap survival in pp and ppbar collisions proposed in 2015, now also allowing for other beam types. It thus relies on several existing ideas: the Ingelman-Schlein approach, the framework for multiparton interactions and the recently developed framework for photoproduction in gamma p, gamma gamma, ep and $e^+e^-$ collisions. The model proposes an explanation for the observed factorization breaking in photoproduced diffractive dijet events at HERA, showing an overall good agreem…
Nuclear modification of forward Drell-Yan production at the LHC
2017
Forward Drell-Yan production at high energy can provide important constraints on gluon densities at small $x$, in the saturation regime. In this work we focus on the nuclear modification of this process, which could be measured at the LHC in the near future. For this we employ the color dipole approach, using the optical Glauber model to relate the dipole cross section of a nucleus to the one of a proton. Combining these results with our earlier results for forward $J/\psi$ production, we compute the ratio of the nuclear modification factors of these two processes. This observable was recently suggested as a way to distinguish between initial and final state effects in forward particle prod…
Forward rapidity isolated photon production in proton-nucleus collisions
2018
We calculate isolated photon production at forward rapidities in proton-nucleus collisions in the Color Glass Condensate framework. Our calculation uses dipole cross sections solved from the running coupling Balitsky-Kovchegov equation with an initial condition fit to deep inelastic scattering data and extended to nuclei with an optical Glauber procedure that introduces no additional parameters beyond the basic nuclear geometry. We present predictions for future forward RHIC and LHC measurements. The predictions are also compared to updated results for the nuclear modification factors for pion production, Drell-Yan dileptons and $J/\psi$ mesons in the same forward kinematics, consistently c…
Unveiling the strong interaction among hadrons at the LHC
2020
One of the key challenges for nuclear physics today is to understand from first principles the effective interaction between hadrons with different quark content. First successes have been achieved using techniques that solve the dynamics of quarks and gluons on discrete space-time lattices1,2. Experimentally, the dynamics of the strong interaction have been studied by scattering hadrons off each other. Such scattering experiments are difficult or impossible for unstable hadrons3–6 and so high-quality measurements exist only for hadrons containing up and down quarks7. Here we demonstrate that measuring correlations in the momentum space between hadron pairs8–12 produced in ultrarelativistic…
News on collectivity in Pb-Pb collisions from the ALICE experiment
2017
The collective expansion of the color-deconfined fireball created in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions maps the initial state of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) to the final-state particle spectrum. The ALICE experiment has been leading important roles for completing the individual flow harmonic measurements at the highest energies to date as well as improving flow harmonic correlation techniques to understand the properties of the QGP and the full evolution of the heavy-ion collisions. In this article, a brief summary of the individual flow harmonic measurements, the details of the new observables developed in recent years from ALICE collaboration and their implications to future studie…
GEM-TPC-ilmaisimen testimittausten datan analyysi
2017
GEM-TPC-ilmaisin on kaasutäytteinen hiukkasilmaisin, jolla pystytään mittaaamaan hyvin pieniä sähköisiä signaaleja ja niiden syntypaikkaa ilmaisimessa. Näitä ilmaisimia tullaan tulevaisuudessa käyttämään mm. FAIRtutkimuslaitoksen Super-FRS-nimisessä fragmenttiseparaattorissa. Tässä tutkielmassa analysoin kesällä 2016 GEM-TPC:llä GSI:ssä suoritettuja ilmaisintestimittauksia ROOT-ohjelmiston avulla. Alkuun kerron, miksi GEM-TPC-ilmaisin on lähdetty suunnittelemaan, minkälaisia mittauksia ja missä sillä on tarkoitus tehdä. Tutkielman loppupuolella analysoin testimittausten tuloksia. GSI:ssä GEM-TPC:tä testattiin Xe- ja C-suihkujen avulla. Tässä tutkielmassa perehdyn syvemmin C-suihkusta tehtyi…
Cosmic perturbation theory and inflation
2015
Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa olen käynyt läpi yhden skalaarikentän synnyttämän kosmisen inflaation teoriaa. Tätä varten olen opiskellut kosmista häiriöteoriaa joka tutkii Friedmann-Robertson-Walker -avaruusajan ympärille kehitettyjen häiriöiden kehitystä inflaation aikana. Kosmiset häiriöt riippuvat mitan valinnasta, joten olen esitellyt hyvin tunnetut mittainvariantit muuttujat, Mukhanovin-Sasakin muuttujan q sekä mukanaliikkuvan kaarevuushäiriön R. Lasken skalaari- ja tensorihäiriöiden tehospektrit sekä relevantit spektriparametrit. Lopuksi käyn läpi kaksi yksinkertaista esimerkkiä, potenssilaki-inflaatio sekä Higgs-inflaatio. In this thesis I have reviewed the basic theory of single sca…
