Artikkelin tutkimuskohteena on suomalaisen sanomalehdistön uutisointi vuosina 2010–2012 tehdystä huippu-urheilun muutostyöstä, jota opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriö rahoitti 2,6 miljoonalla eurolla. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvittää, millainen vallan vahtikoira urheilujournalismi on. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu levikiltään kolmen Suomen suurimman päivälehden (Aamulehti, Helsingin Sanomat ja Turun Sanomat) ja maan molempien iltapäivälehtien (Iltalehti ja Ilta-Sanomat) kaikesta muutostyötä käsittelevästä uutisoinnista lehtien painetuissa versioissa. Tarkasteluajanjakso on rajattu Huippu-urheilun muutosryhmän (HuMu) loppuraportin julkistamista (5.12.2012) seuranneelle puolen vuoden ajalle (6.12.…

Urheilemalla ura urkenee? : entisten huippu-urheilijoiden siirtyminen työelämään ja heidän esimiestensä näkemyksiä huippu-urheilijoista työelämässä
2013
Huippu-urheilu on edelleen tärkeässä roolissa suomalaisille ja urheilijoiden menestymistä kansainvälisellä tasolla toivotaan kaikissa maamme ikäryhmissä. Tutkimusta varten haastateltiin kuusi entistä huippu-urheilijaa, jotka kaikki olivat kilpailleet yksilölajeissa. Lisäksi jokaisen huippu-urheilijan esimiestä haastateltiin tutkimusta varten. Haastattelut toteutettiin teemahaastatteluina. Tässä tutkimuksessa on pyritty selvittämään huippu-urheilijoiden tärkeimpiä sidosryhmiä heidän urhei…

Organizational Culture Beyond Consensus and Clarity: Narratives From Elite Sport
2020
In sport psychology, organizational culture is usually depicted as shared, consistent, and clear—the glue that holds people together so they can achieve success. There is, however, growing discontent in sport psychology with this idea of culture and extensive critiques in other academic domains that suggest this perspective is limited. Accordingly, the authors draw on narrative interviews with participants (n = 7) from different areas of sport and use Martin and Meyerson’s three perspective (integration, differentiation, and fragmentation) approach to culture alongside thematic analysis to reconstruct three “ideal cases” that exemplify each perspective. The findings emphasize a different pa…
Examining Bulgaria's current lack of performance at elite sport level
2017
In the past few decades, professional sport in Bulgaria has been experiencing difficulties in performing well at an elite level. The country fails to live up to the standard that was established prior to the political changes in 1989. However, little to no research has been done, in order to examine the reasons behind this lack of performance by Bulgarian athletes and teams. Therefore, the goal of this study is to focus on the issues that might hinder the development of professional athletes and their performance. The research uses De Bosscher’s SPLISS model which is a conceptual framework whose goal is to analyze sport policy factors leading to international success. For the purpose of thi…
