The Influence of Country-of-Origin on Human Resource Strategy of Multinational Companies in Developing Countries
2009
Human resources can be one of the company's sources of competitive advantage if it is managed effectively and efficiently. Taking this into considerations, MNCs are straggling in designing the human resource strategy that helps them to gain competitive advantage in host countries. In a globalized world however, multinational companies (MNCs) are in the complex pressure of finding appropriate balance between global, home country and local practices especially in the area of human resource management due to the fact that cultural contexts differ significantly among nations. According to theories of ethnocentricity, MNCs tend to transplant the dominant business strategic practices of the count…
Practitioners’ Experiences of Social Media in Career Services
2015
A growing number of career practitioners and career centers are reaching out to individuals and community members in new ways by integrating various social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, into their professional practices (e.g., Dyson, 2012; Osborn & LoFrisco, 2012). To many, social media are simply online tools to share information and to communicate and socialize with one another. In the broader sense, social media is defined as a process whereby individuals and groups build a common understanding and meaning with contents, communities, and Web 2.0 technology (e.g., Ahlqvist, Back, Heinonen, & Halonen, 2010; Kangas, Toivonen, & Back, 2007).An extensive body of litera…
Economic, social and stakeholder-related analysis in sport facility management
2019
The importance of resource management has grown in recent years. Challenged by economic and societal changes, universities must think of new ways to gain requisite resources for research and teaching. The topic of this doctoral thesis belongs mainly to the field of social sciences of sport, as it deals with the importance of resource allocation in sports management at the University of Jyväskylä (JYU) in Finland, the University of Umeå (UU) in Sweden, and the German Sport University (GSU) in Cologne. The aim of this project is to ascertain whether these universities are able and willing to market themselves via their sport facilities. In terms of how the means of managing sport facilities c…
A systematic literature review on employee relations with CSR : State of art and future research agenda
2022
Within recent years, the literature on employee–CSR relations has grown significantly. However, the research is fragmented throughout various journals and disciplines, and we still lack a comprehensive literature review on the topic to show what we currently know about the employee relationship with CSR, and what we do not know. In this study, we conduct a systematic literature review on employee relations with CSR, based 331 journal articles. We analyze their methodological and theoretical approaches. Based on their key findings, we build a categorization of dominant research findings and their connections. Building on our review, we show how the research has been dominated by a focus on t…
Linking employer branding orientation and firm performance: Testing a dual mediation route of recruitment efficiency and positive affective climate
2019
Faced with competitive labor markets, firms increasingly use employer branding to build a qualified workforce and engage their employees. However, our understanding of the impact of employer branding orientation on firm performance and the theoretical firm‐level mechanisms underlying this potential impact is very limited. To address this gap, we integrate brand marketing theory with human resource management (HRM) research to develop a model explicating how employer branding orientation is linked to firm performance through a dual route by enhancing both recruitment efficiency (i.e., external route: applicants) and positive affective climate (i.e., internal route: incumbent employees). The …
Employee commitment to energy management : a qualitative interview study about employee commitment to energy management in industrial companies and p…
2015
Energy management is increasingly important to organisations that consume significant amounts of energy mainly due to the needs to comply with changing legislation and for saving financial resources. Even though energy management has received academic attention, it has not been studied in the perspective of employee commitment. Employee commitment may create various benefits to an organisation and its employees. Hence, this study aims at creating a better understanding of why employees commit to energy management and how it may be enhanced. This qualitative study was conducted using theme interviews as a data collection method. 14 employees, working among energy management, in eleven organi…
Consumers’ Willingness to Pay for Agri-Food Products Delivered with Electric Vehicles in the Short Supply Chains
2022
This study aims at investigating the consumers’ willingness to pay (WTP) for agri-food products delivered in the farmers markets with electric vehicles (EVs). The empirical analysis has been carried out by administering an online questionnaire to 273 consumers within a hypothetical context. A multiple price list has been provided in order to measure the price premium for 1 kg of oranges transported by EVs comparing with the ones transported by traditional vehicles. A Tobit regression model has been used for the data analysis in order to identify the most influential factors affecting the consumers’ WTP. Results suggest that consumers’ WTP is mainly influenced by environmental attitudes, kn…
Organisational Drivers and Challenges in Circular Economy Implementation : An Issue Life Cycle Approach
2022
Business is a significant cause of various global sustainability challenges addressed by the Circular Economy (CE), making companies instrumental in the transition from a linear economic model to a circular one. While drivers and challenges in corporate CE implementation have been researched on an organisational level, a more detailed understanding is needed regarding their contextual nature and interplay with the evolution of CE implementation in a company. Utilising issue life cycle theory, this study contributes to the literature on CE implementation in business by displaying differences in corporate CE implementation drivers and challenges, relating to the time since starting, and the …

Political Patronage in a Small Italian Local Government: An Outcome-Based DPM Approach on Fiduciary Practices
Corruption is “the abuse of public office for personal gain” (World Bank, 1997: 8). Although this definition captures a broad notion of corrupt behaviour, many forms of corruption actually occur in small municipalities each reflecting context-specific features and dynamics. Their impacts are rather evident, but their cause-effects relationships are not always clear, so that tangled issues may ineluctably arise without an apparent explanation. As such, a systemic focus is needed in order to gain an insightful understanding of particular configurations of malfeasance at local level in the attempt to hinder them in the future. The aim of this research project is to explore the dynamic relation…
