Projekt komputu armii litewskiej z 1703 r. wraz z podziałem na poszczególne chorągwie i regimenty
2017
W niniejszym artykule zostaje wprowadzone do obiegu naukowego nowe źródło do badań nad historią armii litewskiej w okresie wielkiej wojny północnej (1700–1721), którym jest projekt komputu z 1703 r. Znajduje się on w Bibliotece Kórnickiej Polskiej Akademii Nauk w rękopisie o sygnaturze 985. W inwentarzu rękopisów biblioteki widnieje natomiast jako komput z 1706 r. Trudno jednak ustalić faktyczną datę jego powstania. Możliwe jest jedynie oszacowanie pewnych cezur. Sporządzony został na pewno przed 27 listopada 1703 r. (wprowadzenie w życie postanowień rady senatu w Jaworowie o pozbawieniu urzędów Sapiehów). Natomiast prawdopodobnie powstał przed lub w trakcie sejmu lubelskiego (11 czerwca – …

The Donation Act of Hagi Constantin Pop’s Family for the Annunciation Church in Sibiu
2020
This article presents an important document relating to the history of an Orthodox church in Sibiu (Biserica din Groapă), whose construction was possible due to the support provided by the family of the wealthy Macedonian-Romanian merchant Hagi Constantin Pop, at the beginning of the nineteenth century. After a thorough description of the document, we will provide both the German transcription and the English translation of the text. The notes and comments that accompany the document are meant to shed light upon the historical context in which the church was raised and to emphasize the importance of the document, which is the oldest one preserved in the archives of the Annunciation Church. …

Understanding Finnish education: science popularization and scholarly work as intertwined activities
2015
Moving to Finland two years ago had given new push to my work in many ways. I have been studying Hungarian educationfor about thirteen years and I have been addressing the general public with popularizing materials for nearly five years now. However, in Finland these activities become more complex than in my native country. Here, I wish to discuss how my research found larger and larger contexts in two steps: First, by starting to make my research available to wider audiences in Hungary, and second, by turning my focus to an international environment. I claim that these two types of recontextualization are not only beneficial for me as a researcher personally but also serve the researched c…
The Strategic Cognition View of Issue Salience and the Evolution of a Political Issue : Landis & Gyr, the Hungarian Uprising and East-West Trade, 195…
2017
Why do firms facing similar stakeholder issues respond quite differently? The recently introduced strategic cognition view of issue salience and firm responsiveness (hereinafter: issue salience model) seeks to tackle this core question of stakeholder theory. I extend the nascent theorizing with a historical case study in order to rethink the model’s firm-centric perspective. The firm under examination in this historical case study is the Swiss multinational Landis & Gyr (LG) during the Cold War period. Like many other Swiss exportoriented companies in the 1950s and early 1960s, LG was challenged by Swiss pressure groups, which were highly effective at putting an issue on the public agenda: …

The International Congress of Hungarian Studies takes place every five years to provide an academic forum for scholars worldwide. In 2016, as the opening of the University of Pécs's 650th-anniversary celebrations, the 8th International Congress of Hungarian Studies was held in Pécs, Hungary. The conference participants included more than 500 prominent scholars from 25 countries. Among the 40 symposia, the "Hungarian Studies in the Far East" Symposium appeared in the program for the first time. This occasion brought together founders, teachers, and researchers from Hungarian Studies departments in Japan, South Korea, and China. In addition to introducing education and research activities in …
The Hungarian writer of the Lost Time : memory and poetical imitation in Krúdy Gyula’s work
2015
Gyula Krúdy’s (1878-1933) oeuvre admittedly represents a peculiar kind of conundrum within the confines of literary modernism in Hungarian literature. While the most significant authors of the early 20th century drew inspiration from Western European literary forms and preferred to distance their works from previous prose traditions, Krúdy’s fiction remained closely linked to those narrative forms inherent to 19th century Hungarian prose. His motive for continuing to use these narrative forms did not stem from a blind desire to follow tradition, but rather originated from a conscious effort to renew and reform the heritage bequeathed upon him by past authors. Thus, the strange dichotomy tha…

The University of Jyväskylä's Hungarian Studies Program celebrated its twentieth anniversary with an international conference, held on March 15, 2011. The event was opened by Rector Matti Manninen, who at that time served as the Vice-Rector of the university. The conference participants included people from six European countries who not only commended Jyväskylä's Hungarian Studies Program, but took accounts of the history of the main international institutions of Hungarian Studies abroad as well, devoting special attention to the developments in the last two decades after the political transition in Hungary. The conference proceedings, as a collection of papers by the leading figures of th…

The language policy of the European Union has the goal that every citizen will be bilingual and everybody will be able to communicate in two diQ erent languages besides one’s mother tongue. The aim of this article is to investigate the conditions for reaching these goals among people with immigrant backgrounds. The article provides an overview of bilingualism among one group of adults with Hungarian background in Finland.
