Ventilation/perfusion ratios measured by multiple inert gas elimination during experimental cardiopulmonary resuscitation

2014

Background During cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) the ventilation/perfusion distribution (VA/Q) within the lung is difficult to assess. This experimental study examines the capability of multiple inert gas elimination (MIGET) to determine VA/Q under CPR conditions in a pig model. Methods Twenty-one anaesthetised pigs were randomised to three fractions of inspired oxygen (1.0, 0.7 or 0.21). VA/Q by micropore membrane inlet mass spectrometry-derived MIGET was determined at baseline and during CPR following induction of ventricular fibrillation. Haemodynamics, blood gases, ventilation distribution by electrical impedance tomography and return of spontaneous circulation were assessed. Inter…

Perimeter leakage current in polymer light emitting diodes

2009

Observation of leakage current paths through the device perimeter in standard poly(phenylene vinylene)-based light-emitting devices is reported. Perimeter leakage currents govern the diode performance in reverse and low positive bias and exhibit an ohmic character. Current density correlates with the perimeter-to-area ratio thus indicating that leakage currents are mainly confined on polymer regions in the vicinity of metallic contact limits (device perimeter). © 2008 Elsevier B.V.

Huntingtin controls neurotrophic support and survival of neurons by enhancing BDNF vesicular transport along microtubules.

2004

AbstractPolyglutamine expansion (polyQ) in the protein huntingtin is pathogenic and responsible for the neuronal toxicity associated with Huntington's disease (HD). Although wild-type huntingtin possesses antiapoptotic properties, the relationship between the neuroprotective functions of huntingtin and pathogenesis of HD remains unclear. Here, we show that huntingtin specifically enhances vesicular transport of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) along microtubules. Huntingtin-mediated transport involves huntingtin-associated protein-1 (HAP1) and the p150Glued subunit of dynactin, an essential component of molecular motors. BDNF transport is attenuated both in the disease context and b…

Huntingtin mediates dendritic transport of β-actin mRNA in rat neurons

2011

Transport of mRNAs to diverse neuronal locations via RNA granules serves an important function in regulating protein synthesis within restricted sub-cellular domains. We recently detected the Huntington's disease protein huntingtin (Htt) in dendritic RNA granules; however, the functional significance of this localization is not known. Here we report that Htt and the huntingtin-associated protein 1 (HAP1) are co-localized with the microtubule motor proteins, the KIF5A kinesin and dynein, during dendritic transport of β-actin mRNA. Live cell imaging demonstrated that β-actin mRNA is associated with Htt, HAP1, and dynein intermediate chain in cultured neurons. Reduction in the levels of Htt, H…

Deregulated Splicing Is a Major Mechanism of RNA-Induced Toxicity in Huntington's Disease.

2019

Huntington's disease (HD) is caused by an expanded CAG repeat in the huntingtin (HTT) gene, translating into an elongated polyglutamine stretch. In addition to the neurotoxic mutant HTT protein, the mutant CAG repeat RNA can exert toxic functions by trapping RNA-binding proteins. While few examples of proteins that aberrantly bind to mutant HTT RNA and execute abnormal function in conjunction with the CAG repeat RNA have been described, an unbiased approach to identify the interactome of mutant HTT RNA is missing. Here, we describe the analysis of proteins that preferentially bind mutant HTT RNA using a mass spectrometry approach. We show that (I) the majority of proteins captured by mutant…

Neuroendoscopic Navigated One-Step Removal of Crossed Ventricular Catheter Fragments: Technical Note

2021

Abstract Introduction Neuroendoscopy plays an important role in minimally invasive neurosurgery. The authors reported an interesting case of a pediatric patient with multiple ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) revision surgeries, presenting with VPS infection and with two crossed intraventricular floating catheter fragments, successfully removed through a neuroendoscopic navigated one-step procedure. A literature review regarding this exceedingly rare condition has also been discussed. Case Description An 11-year-old female patient with a history of congenital hydrocephalus was admitted to the emergency department with symptoms of intracranial hypertension, psychomotor agitation, and tetrapar…

Mesolithic pit-sites in Champagne (France): First data, key issues

2015

International audience; In less than a decade, more than 30 sites and around 200 deep pits dated to the Mesolithic have been identied in the Champagne-Ardenne region (north-eastern France). This paper describes the main characteristics of these features and provides some clues for their interpretation. This unexpected but apparently common type of site clearly implies a more marked territoriality and a greater social complexity than generally proposed for the period in continental northern France.
