Cataract surgery and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in pediatric eyes remain controversial. Using a viscoadaptive viscoelastic agent, we implanted a modified capsular bending ring (CBR) as well as an acrylic IOL with a sharp-optic-edge design in the capsular bag. All operated eyes demonstrated a low postoperative inflammatory reaction and a clinically well-centered IOL. The band-shaped, sharp-edged CBR facilitates the creation of a sharp, discontinuous bend in the equatorial capsule, which prevents anterior and posterior capsule opacification. Thermodynamic analysis of binding between drugs and glycosaminoglycans by isothermal titration calorimetry and fluorescence spectroscopy

The thermodynamics of the interaction of positively charged drug molecules with negatively charged glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) is investigated by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and fluorescence spectroscopy. The drugs considered are propranolol hydrochloride, tacrine, and aminacrine, and the polymers used as model GAGs are dextran sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, and hyaluronic acid. The ITC results show that the interaction between drugs and GAGs is via direct binding and that GAGs bind to drugs at one set of sites. The purpose of this study was to investigate several inflammatory mediators and cartilage degradation molecules as possible biomarkers of joint lesion in the anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) model of osteoarthritis in rats. We also assessed whether the treatment with the anti-inflammatory agent tin protoporphyrin IX (SnPP) reduces the progression of disease. Our results indicate that serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6 and PGE2 are significantly increased in ACLT rats 10 weeks after surgery, whereas the increases in IL-1β and tumor necrosis-α were not significant. Pamatojums: Ādā injicējamie hialuronskābes (HA) filleri ir minimāli invazīva sejas estētiska procedūra. HA ir ilgstošas iedarbības, minimāli imūngēni, un tos var sašķelt ar hialuronidāzi. Tomēr HA filleru injekcijas var izsaukt blakusefektus, sākot no nebūtiskiem līdz pat spēcīgiem. Mērķis: Šī darba mērķis ir noteikt sejas ādā injicējamo hialuronskābes filleru blakusefektu dažādību, biežumu un ilgumu.
