Comparison of Components Released by Fermented or Active Dried Yeasts after Aging on Lees in a Model Wine

2003

Comparison of different components released during autolysis with fermented or active dried yeast, which has never been reported previously, is related in this paper. Three autolysates were elaborated with Saccharomyces cerevisiae in a model wine (pH 3.5) at 30 or 18 degrees C. Composition of the autolysate appears to depend on both the growth medium and the physiological state of the yeast. The autolysate obtained from active dried yeast presents a higher total nitrogen concentration (a factor of 1.5-1.9 for the fermented yeast autolysate), a greater proportion of free amino acids (42 vs 16-25%), the lowest proportion of oligopeptides (25 vs 31-37%) and polypeptides (27 vs 45-34%), and an …

Inhibitoren der Korrosion 21 (1) - Autoxidationsstudien an Fe2+-Salzen der Tetramethylen-1,4-bis-phosphonsäure, der Hexamethylen-1,6-bis-phosphonsäur…

1978

Corrosion I…

Biocompatibility, hemocompatibility and antimicrobial properties of xyloglucan-based hydrogel film for wound healing application.

2018

Crosslinked xyloglucan-poly(vinyl alcohol) based hydrogel films are interesting materials for wound healing applications. This work focuses on the hydrolytic degradation and consequent morphological modification of a XG-PVA film and on its interaction with cells, blood, bacteria. Biocompatibility of the film was assessed in vitro by investigating different aspects, such as cell viability, oxidative stress level, mitochondrial dysfunction and specific stress biomarkers. Partial adhesiveness was demonstrated by performing different attaching assays and phalloidin staining. Hemocompatibility of XG-PVA film after interaction with blood was evaluated by using a multi-parametric approach, includi…

Optimization of acetate production from citrus wastewater fermentation

2021

Abstract Citrus wastewater is a sugar-rich waste stream suitable for the recovery of energy of material from its treatment. In this study, fermentation of citrus wastewater was carried out to assess the optimal conditions to maximize the bioconversion of the organic substrate into acetate. Unbalanced nutrient (C: N: P 200:0.1:0.1) enabled the highest acetate production. The presence of the particulate organic fraction enabled to obtain a higher acetate concentration regardless the initial COD concentration. Initial pH values higher than 5 did not cause substantial differences on the maximum bioconversion of COD into acetate in Trial 3, whereas pH lower than 5 hindered the hydrolysis process…

Quantification of hydrolysis of toxic organophosphates and organophosphonates by diisopropyl fluorophosphatase from Loligo vulgaris by in situ Fourie…

2008

Abstract The enzyme diisopropyl fluorophosphatase (DFPase) from the squid Loligo vulgaris effectively catalyzes the hydrolysis of diisopropyl fluorophosphate (DFP) and a number of organophosphorus nerve agents, including sarin, soman, cyclosarin, and tabun. Up to now, the determination of kinetic data has been achieved by techniques such as pH-stat titration, ion-selective electrodes, and fluorogenic substrate analogs. We report a new assaying method using in situ Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection (ATR) for the real-time determination of reaction rates. The method employs changes in the P–O–R stretching vibration of DFP and nerve agent substrate…

An enzyme caught in action: Direct imaging of hydrolytic function and domain formation of phospholipase A2 in phosphatidylcholine monolayers

1989

AbstractPhospholipase A2, a ubiquitous lipolytic enzyme that actively catalyses hydrolysis of phospholipids, has been studied as a model for enzyme-substrate reactions, as a membrane structural probe, and as a model for lipid-protein interactions. Its mechanism of action remains largely controversial. We report here for the first time direct microscopic observation of the lipolytic action of fluorescently marked phospholipase A2 (Naja naja naja) against phosphatidylcholine monolayers in the lipid phase transition region. Under these conditions, phospholipase A2 is shown to target and hydrolyse solid-phase lipid domains of L-α-dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine. In addition, after a critical ext…

Sulfated Lupane Triterpene Derivatives and a Flavone C-Glycoside from Gypsophila repens

2007

A new sulfated lupane triterpene, Gypsophilin (1), and its glucosyl ester, Gypsophilinoside (2) were isolated from the roots of Gypsophila repens whereas a new flavone C-glycoside (3) was obtained from the aerial parts. Their structures were established as (3beta)-3-O-(sulfo)lup-20(29)-en-23,28-dioic acid (1), (3beta)-3-O-(sulfo)lup-20(29)-en-23,28-dioic acid -28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester (2) and luteolin-7-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl-6-C-beta-glucopyranoside (3) by spectroscopic methods such as 1D and 2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS and FAB-MS.

Expression of metabotropic glutamate receptors in murine thymocytes and thymic stromal cells

2000

RT-PCR combined with immunoblotting showed the expression of group-I (mGlu1 and 5) and group-II (mGlu2 and 3) metabotropic glutamate receptors in whole mouse thymus, isolated thymocytes and TC-1S thymic stromal cell line. Cytofluorimetric analysis showed that mGlu-5 receptors were absent in CD4(-)/CD8(-) but present in more mature CD4(+) CD8(+) and CD4(+)CD8(-) thymocytes. mGlu-1a receptors showed an opposite pattern of expression with respect to mGlu5, whereas mGlu2/3 receptor expression did not differ between double negative and double positive cells. mGlu receptors expressed in both thymic cell components were functional, as indicated by measurements of polyphosphoinositide hydrolysis or…

Rate-retarding effects of mixed anionic/non-ionic micelles on the alkaline hydrolysis of the chloropentamminocobalt(III) complex - Role of the anioni…

2006

Rate data for the alkaline hydrolysis of the chloropentaamminecobalt(III) cation in the presence of mixed micelles composed of (i) anionic sodium decylsulphate (SDeS) and non-ionic dodecylpenta(oxyethylene glycol) monoether (C12E5) surfactants and (ii) anionic sodium perfluorooctanoate (SPFO) and non-ionic C12E5 surfactants has been obtained at T 298K and constant electrolyte concentration 0.08 mol dm−3 ([NaOH] = 0.01 mol dm−3, [NaClO4] = 0.07 mol dm−3) over a wide range of total surfactant concentration (Ct) and anionic mole fraction (χ). The critical micelle concentrations (c.m.c.s) of the mixed micelles have been determined over the entire χ range by means of surface tension measurements…
