ESO-Hα 574 and Par-Lup 3-4 jets: Exploring the spectral, kinematical, and physical properties

In this paper a comprehensive analysis of VLT / X-Shooter observations of two jet systems, namely ESO-H$\alpha$ 574 a K8 classical T Tauri star and Par-Lup 3-4 a very low mass (0.13~\Msun) M5 star, is presented. Both stars are known to have near-edge on accretion disks. A summary of these first X-shooter observations of jets was given in a 2011 letter. The new results outlined here include flux tables of identified emission lines, information on the morphology, kinematics and physical conditions of both jets and, updated estimates of $\dot{M}_{out}$ / $\dot{M}_{acc}$. X-ray emission from dense plasma in classical T Tauri stars: hydrodynamic modeling of the accretion shock

Context: High spectral resolution X-ray observations of classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs) demonstrate the presence of plasma at temperature T~2-3×10^6 K and density n_e~10^11-10^13 cm^-3, which are unobserved in non-accreting stars. Stationary models suggest that this emission is due to shock-heated accreting material, but do not allow us to analyze the stability of the material and its position in the stellar atmosphere. MALTA: a CMOS pixel sensor with asynchronous readout for the ATLAS High-Luminosity upgrade

Radiation hard silicon sensors are required for the upgrade of the ATLAS tracking detector for the High- Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) at CERN. A process modification in a standard 0.18 μm CMOS imaging technology combines small, low-capacitance electrodes (∼2 fF for the sensor) with a fully depleted active sensor volume. This results in a radiation hardness promising to meet the requirements of the ATLAS ITk outer pixel layers (1.5 × 1015 neq /cm2 ), and allows to achieve a high signal-to-noise ratio and fast signal response, as required by the HL-LHC 25 ns bunch crossing structure. Z production cross sections and lepton pair forward-backward asymmetries

Precise values of the Z resonance cross sections and lepton pair forward-backward asymmetries are measured from a sample of 1.3 million Z decays into hadrons and charged leptons taken with the ALEPH detector at LEP. A silicon-tungsten luminosity calorimeter was installed in ALEPH in 1992, permitting the determination of the absolute luminosity to a systematic precision of 0.15% (experimental) and 0.25% (theoretical). This is combined with a better understanding of the hadronic event selection and an improved tau pair selection. Measurement of Z-pair production in e(+)e(-) collisions and constraints on anomalous neutral gauge couplings

The ZZ production cross section is measured from a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 452 pb−1, collected by the ALEPH experiment at LEP at centre-of-mass energies from 192 to 209 GeV. Individual cross sections, extracted at six centre-of-mass energies, are found to be in agreement with Standard Model calculations. The results are used to set limits on anomalous neutral gauge couplings. The pulse profile and spin evolution of the accreting pulsar in Terzan 5, IGR J17480−2446, during its 2010 outburst

(abridged) We analyse the spectral and pulse properties of the 11 Hz transient accreting pulsar, IGR J17480-2446, in the globular cluster Terzan 5, considering all the available RXTE, Swift and INTEGRAL observations performed between October and November, 2010. By measuring the pulse phase evolution we conclude that the NS spun up at an average rate of =1.48(2)E-12 Hz/s, compatible with the accretion of the Keplerian angular momentum of matter at the inner disc boundary. Similar to other accreting pulsars, the stability of the pulse phases determined by using the second harmonic component is higher than that of the phases based on the fundamental frequency. Direct production of χc1 at BESIII

The production of resonances in electron-positron annihilation has only been observed for states with quantum numbers JPC = 1−−, while C = +1 resonances appear only among the decay products. The direct production of the 1++ states could happen through two-photon or neutral current. Due to the smallness of the production rate, this process has never been verified experimentally. With the high luminosity and good performance of the BESIII experiment, a search of the direct production of the 1++ state in charmonium region, χc1, is undergoing with dedicated data samples around the χc1 mass. An overview of the data analysis will be presented.

TANAMI Blazars in the IceCube PeV Neutrino Fields

The IceCube Collaboration has announced the discovery of a neutrino flux in excess of the atmospheric background. Due to the steeply falling atmospheric background spectrum, events at PeV energies are most likely of extraterrestrial origin. We present the multiwavelength properties of the six radio brightest blazars positionally coincident with these events using contemporaneous data of the TANAMI blazar sample, including high-resolution images and spectral energy distributions. Assuming the X-ray to {\gamma}-ray emission originates in the photoproduction of pions by accelerated protons, the integrated predicted neutrino luminosity of these sources is large enough to explain the two detecte…

Majorons and supernova cooling

We consider the role of Majoron emission in supernova cooling and its implications for the neutrino mass and lifetime in generic single Majoron models. It is found that, for ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\tau}}$ with mass $m$, if the lifetime for the decay ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\tau}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{Majoron}+{\ensuremath{\nu}}_{e,\ensuremath{\mu}}$ is shorter than ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}7}$ (m/MeV) sec, then Majorons are so strongly trapped by the inverse process that the resulting Majoron luminosity is small enough not to destabilize the observed ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{e}$ pulse from SN 1987A. Fe Kα and Hydrodynamic Loop Model Diagnostics for a Large Flare on II Pegasi

The observation by the Swift X-ray Telescope of the Fe K alpha_1, alpha_2 doublet during a large flare on the RS CVn binary system II Peg represents one of only two firm detections to date of photospheric Fe K alpha from a star other than our Sun. We present models of the Fe K alpha equivalent widths reported in the literature for the II Peg observations and show that they are most probably due to fluorescence following inner shell photoionisation of quasi-neutral Fe by the flare X-rays.
