Investigation of Diketopiperazines Containing a Guanidino-Functionalized Sidechain as Potential Catalysts of Enantioselective Strecker Reactions
2005
Diketopiperazine 1 consisting of L-(γ-guanidino-α-amino)butyric acid and L-phenylalanine was synthesized as the hydroacetate and as the hydronitrate. Its structure was confirmed by X-ray analysis. In contrast to reports in the literature (Lipton et al.), compound 1 does not induce enantioselevtive catalysis of Strecker reactions. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Competitive interactions are mediated in a sex-specific manner by arbuscular mycorrhiza inAntennaria dioica
2017
Plants usually interact with other plants, and the outcome of such interaction ranges from facilitation to competition depending on the identity of the plants, including their sexual expression. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi have been shown to modify competitive interactions in plants. However, few studies have evaluated how AM fungi influence plant intraspecific and interspecific interactions in dioecious species. The competitive abilities of female and male plants of Antennaria dioica were examined in a greenhouse experiment. Females and males were grown in the following competitive settings: (i) without competition, (ii) with intrasexual competition, (iii) with intersexual competitio…
Anti-GD3 antibodies are potent activators of human gamma/delta and alpha/beta positive T cells.
1995
The ganglioside GD3 has a variety of biological functions. These include stimulatory effects on proliferation, natural killer activity and cytokine production by freshly isolated peripheral T cells. In this study we have characterized anti-GD3 antibody (MoAb Z21) mediated effects on T cell clones. Our data indicate that alpha/beta TCR CD4+ and CD8+ as well as gamma/delta TCR positive T cells can be stimulated resulting in proliferation and cytokine production. This effect could be blocked by cyclosporin A and did not involve the LFA-3 or CD4 molecule. Apart from IFN-gamma and IL-2 production by T helper 1 and T helper 0 cells we have observed production of IL-4 and IL-10 by T helper 2 cells…
Unusual Neuroendocrine Differentiation in a Small Round Cell Angiosarcoma: A Potential Histologic Mimicker of Superficial Ewing Sarcoma.
2018
Neuroendocrine differentiation or aberrant expression of neuroendocrine markers is very uncommon in angiosarcomas (AS) and creates a challenging differential diagnosis with other superficial or soft tissue tumors. Herein, we report a new case of superficial AS presenting as a tumor lesion on the little finger of the right hand of a 52-year-old man. The tumor displayed CD56, chromogranin-A, and synaptophysin immunoreactivity. Tumor cells were positive for vascular markers (CD31, FLI1, ERG, D2-40, VE-cadherin, VEGR1,2, and 3), CD99, and EMA, but were negative for S100, CK (AE1/AE3), CK20, polyomavirus, and myogenic (desmin and myogenin) and melanocyte markers (melan-A and HMB45). Ki67 immunos…
Adoptive transfer of protective immunity from Cryptosporidium parvum-infected interferon-gamma and interleukin-12-deficient mice to naive recipients.
2008
We investigated the possibility of transfer immunity from Cryptosporidium parvum-infected interferon-gamma (GKO) and interleukin-12p40 (IL-12KO) deficient C57BL/6 mice to naive mice by transfer of intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) and CD4(+) T cells from spleen and mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs). Three days after the transfer recipients were infected with C. parvum. IELs isolated from GKO donor mice after resolution of infection (day 15) but not at the peak of infection (day 8) significantly reduced the parasite load in recipient mice. In IL-12KO mice, IELs and also CD4(+) T cells isolated from the spleen and MLNs of donor mice at the peak of infection (day 5) and after resolution (day 15) …
