A model for rapid, active surveillance for medically-attended acute gastroenteritis within an integrated health care delivery system

2018

Background This study presents a novel methodology for estimating all-age, population-based incidence rates of norovirus and other pathogens that contribute to acute gastroenteritis in the United States using an integrated healthcare delivery system as a surveillance platform. Methods All cases of medically attended acute gastroenteritis within the delivery system were identified from April 1, 2014 through September 30, 2016. A sample of these eligible patients were selected to participate in two phone-based surveys and to self-collect a stool sample for laboratory testing. To ascertain household transmission patterns, information on household members with acute gastroenteritis was gathered…

Luminescence and transient absorption in ZnWO4 and ZnWO4–Fe crystals

2001

Abstract The transient absorption spectra and relaxation kinetics under pulse electron beam excitation in ZnWO 4 and ZnWO 4 –Fe, as well as luminescence spectra and decay kinetics, were studied. It is shown that a fraction of transient absorption is due to luminescence center excited state. The energy transfer from intrinsic excitations to the defect or impurity states is not efficient. The role of Fe-impurities in the decay process is discussed.

The energy transfer to the luminescence centers in PbWO4

1998

Abstract The luminescence spectra, rise and decay kinetics and the yield of luminescence in undoped PbWO 4 crystals were studied after pulsed electron beam irradiation. The luminescence intensity rise observed after irradiation pulse showed two mechanisms—excitonic relaxation and electron–hole recombination—were involved in the formation of the excited states of the blue luminescence centers. It is proposed that the excited states of WO 3 and WO 2− 4 luminescence centers were formed from some intermediate metastable state.

Spectroscopy of an optical excited Ga doped SiO2 surface

2007

Abstract We present the first spectroscopical analysis of the Ga/SiO2 surface interaction in hot environment. This interaction gives rise to inclusions of Ga atoms inside the silica matrix that produce structural changes and modify the SiO2 optical characteristics. This paper discusses both the time- and the frequency-resolved spectra of the fluorescence emission following UV pulsed laser excitation of the so “doped” silica in the range 15,000–28,000 cm−1. The investigation is completed by the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of two high-purity synthetic silica samples of commercial origin after thermal treatment in presence and in absence of a Ga atmosphere.

Localised transitions in luminescence of AlN ceramics

2014

Abstract The photoluminescence (PL) and thermoluminescence (TL) properties of AlN ceramics revealed under UV irradiation are determined mainly by oxygen-related centres, giving rise to the UV (around 3.18 eV) and the Blue (2.58 eV) bands. It was found that the UV irradiation-generated donor–acceptor pairs (DAPs), responsible for the UV emission band, are randomly distributed with regard to separation distance. Luminescence properties of AlN are interpreted basing on the model of localised recombination involving electron tunnel transitions from the excited state of D to the ground state of A, proposed by Jain et al. (2012) . The observed features of PL, afterglow and TL of AlN ceramics are …

Radiation induced luminescence processes in c-BN

2004

Abstract Spectral properties of cubic boron nitride have been studied using methods of photoluminescence (PL), X-ray excited luminescence (XL), thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence. It is found that emission of cubic boron nitride is presented by 4 subbands, their relative yield is determined by the excitation type: blue, green (dominant) and red bands are observed in PL, ultraviolet, blue (dominant), green and red bands—in XL. Three thermal peaks are found in TL curves in the 0–700°C temperature range, their presence and intensity depend on radiation type used. A tentative correspondence between thermal peaks and emission bands is found.

Transition probabilities of PrII-lines emitted from a ferroelectric plasma source

1991

Abstract An argon-praseodymium plasma was generated under atmospheric pressure between a ceramic ferroelectric plate and a praseodymium plate. The system of plates was connected to an acoustic frequency supply. The plasma radiation was analyzed in the spectral range from 2000 to 7000 A by using a grating spectrograph with a linear dispersion near 1 mm/A, adopted to photoelectric measurements. The emission spectrum of praseodymium was recorded and the intensities of a few hundred lines were measured. Transition probabilities were determined for 62PrII-lines, using available lifetime data for excited levels and measured branching ratios of the corresponding lines. Reasonable agreement has bee…

Time-resolved luminescence and absorption in CdWO4

1998

Abstract The luminescence and short-lived absorption are studied in CdWO 4 single crystals under pulsed laser beam as well as pulsed electron beam excitation. The luminescence spectrum and decay kinetics for CdWO 4 powder are studied. The short-lived absorption in single crystals arises from electron transitions from the luminescence center excited state to the conduction band. From luminescence and short-lived absorption spectra the energy depths of luminescence center excited and ground states are estimated.

Temperature-dependent angular resolved UV-photoemission spectroscopy from CeNi2Ge2

2001

Abstract Pronounced temperature effects in angular resolved ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy from the (001) surface of the ternary heavy fermion compound CeNi 2 Ge 2 are presented. The measurements were performed on atomically clean and well-ordered thin films grown on a W(110) substrate. A strongly enhanced intensity at the Fermi edge ( ϵ F ) is observed at low-temperatures if the spectra are excited by means of HeI light ( hν =21.2 eV). In addition, the work function is dramatically increased with temperature, exhibiting an unusually high positive temperature coefficient of about 0.65 meV/K. The observed temperature dependency suggests a strong redistribution of the states near the …
