Rotational Correlation Functions of Single Molecules

Single molecule rotational correlation functions are analyzed for several reorientation geometries. Even for the simplest model of isotropic rotational diffusion our findings predict non-exponential correlation functions to be observed by polarization sensitive single molecule fluorescence microscopy. This may have a deep impact on interpreting the results of molecular reorientation measurements in heterogeneous environments.

The electronic properties of cobalt(II)- and nickel(II)-substituted azurins from Pseudomonas aeruginosa have been investigated. EPR data for the cobalt derivative and paramagnetic susceptibility data for the nickel derivative are reported. The EPR spectrum of Co(II)−azurin shows the typical pattern of a Kramers' doublet (±1/2) associated with an S = 3/2 ground state in a distorted axial symmetry environment. The temperature dependence of the EPR intensities shows that this Kramers' doublet is the excited doublet and, therefore, that the corresponding zero-field splitting parameter D is negative (∼−3.5 cm-1). ABSTRACTThe electronic structure and properties of small clusters are strongly dependent on their size. These size specific properties are illustrated by confining the discussion to three different topics (1) interaction of hydrogen with clusters (2) effect of temperature and magnetic field on the magnetization of clusters and (3) reaction of clusters with gas atoms.
