Abstract This work analyzed the influence of different application protocols on the efficacy of two biocides against the foliose lichen Xanthoparmelia tinctina on the sandstones of the Roman Archaeological site of Luni (Italy). The hypotheses that (a) biocide application tools (brush vs. poultice), (b) pre-treatment hydration, and (c) post-treatment washing may affect devitalization success were verified by monitoring chlorophyll a fluorescence of thalli, both in situ and in laboratory conditions. Abstract Chaenothecopsis claydenii is described as new from New Brunswick, Canada, and C. eugenia, also from New Brunswick, is reported for the first time in North America. Both species grow on the resin of Picea spp. in the Acadian Forest and bring to 91 the number of calicioid lichens and fungi known for the ecoregion. Diagnoses and information on the taxonomy and ecology of each species is provided, as is a worldwide key to the mycocalicioid taxa growing on conifer resin.

The present study was conducted to determine the potential effect of the dietary intake of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum) seeds alone or in combination with Bacillus licheniformis, Lactobacillus plantarum or B. subtilis on gilthead seabream quality and antioxidant response after 2 and 3 weeks of experimental feeding. The current literature reveals that the intrathalline coexistence of multiple microalgal taxa in lichens is more common than previously thought, and additional complexity is supported by the coexistence of bacteria and basidiomycete yeasts in lichen thalli. This replaces the old paradigm that lichen symbiosis occurs between a fungus and a single photobiont.
