Indisponibilità dei diritti fondamentali: un problema di interpretazione
2018
In this article, I will argue that a liberal-egalitarian theory can easily justify the fact that the holder of a fundamental right cannot legitimately transfer or surrender a fundamental right. A liberal-egalitarian theory can justify the fact the exercise of a fundamental right is mandatory, when what is protected is a real interest of the right holder, like the rights of workers to wages or paid holidays. On the contrary, a liberalegalitarian theory is incompatible with the fact that the exercise of the fundamental right is considered mandatory, the holder must exercise the right, when the interest protected is an ideal or objective interest, like the objective value of life, not a real o…
Deweyan Democracy, Neoliberalism, and Action Research
2019
This article aims to establish a line of continuity between John Dewey's democratic and educational ideals and the practice of action research, to justify that the latter affords an adequate means to enact Dewey's ideals against the destructive challenges that neoliberalism poses to democracy today. This aim involves three ideas that will be developed in three corresponding sections. After the Introduction, the first section analyzes at length the main tenets of Dewey's thoughts about democracy by emphasizing the role of the educational dimension. The article then approaches neoliberalism by focusing on one of its variants, New Public Management, and explains why the latter implies a direct…
Combined fuzzy TOPSIS and AHP-based methodology for the prioritization of maintenance key performance indicators: Application to an oil refinery plant
2017
A Maintenance Performance Measurement model based on the use of Maintenance Key Performance Indicators (MKPIs) is proposed in the present paper. Referring to a specific industrial context, a multi-level hierarchical structure is firstly designed to highlight the most meaningful perspectives which affect the maintenance performance. Then, MKPIs selected from the literature or properly formulated to detail some particular perspective of the investigated maintenance process are assigned to the hierarchical framework and prioritized by a Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)-based approach.
Francesco De Sarlo. Dalla psicologia sociale alla filosofia pratica
2019

Statistical Thermodynamics of Polymer Quantum Systems
2011
Polymer quantum systems are mechanical models quantized similarly as loop quantum gravity. It is actually in quantizing gravity that the polymer term holds proper as the quantum geometry excitations yield a reminiscent of a polymer material. In such an approach both non-singular cosmological models and a microscopic basis for the entropy of some black holes have arisen. Also important physical questions for these systems involve thermodynamics. With this motivation, in this work, we study the statistical thermody- namics of two one dimensional polymer quantum systems: an ensemble of oscillators that describe a solid and a bunch of non-interacting particles in a box, which thus form an ideal…
Residual Stresses in Glasses
2013
The history dependence of the glasses formed from flow-melted steady states by a sudden cessation of the shear rate $\dot\gamma$ is studied in colloidal suspensions, by molecular dynamics simulations, and mode-coupling theory. In an ideal glass, stresses relax only partially, leaving behind a finite persistent residual stress. For intermediate times, relaxation curves scale as a function of $\dot\gamma t$, even though no flow is present. The macroscopic stress evolution is connected to a length scale of residual liquefaction displayed by microscopic mean-squared displacements. The theory describes this history dependence of glasses sharing the same thermodynamic state variables, but differi…
Lichenothelia renobalesiana sp. nov. (Lichenotheliaceae), for a lichenicolous ascomycete confused with Polycoccum opulentum (Dacampiaceae)
2008
Abstract:The name Polycoccum opulentum proves to have been wrongly applied to a lichenicolous fungus belonging to the genus Lichenothelia, and which differs from the type material of P. opulentum in having non-ostiolate broadly stipitate ascomata and narrow ascospores with a conspicuous gelatinous sheath. The Lichenothelia represents an hitherto undescribed species, named here as L. renobalesiana, sp. nov. which is associated with verrucarialean lichens on hard limestones in temperate regions. The true P. opulentum is known only from the original collection on Polyblastia hyperborea from Sweden.
Steiner systems and configurations of points
2020
AbstractThe aim of this paper is to make a connection between design theory and algebraic geometry/commutative algebra. In particular, given any Steiner SystemS(t, n, v) we associate two ideals, in a suitable polynomial ring, defining a Steiner configuration of points and its Complement. We focus on the latter, studying its homological invariants, such as Hilbert Function and Betti numbers. We also study symbolic and regular powers associated to the ideal defining a Complement of a Steiner configuration of points, finding its Waldschmidt constant, regularity, bounds on its resurgence and asymptotic resurgence. We also compute the parameters of linear codes associated to any Steiner configur…
Modernity and the articulation of the gender system: Order, conflict, and chaos
2009
Gender system can be understood as a cultural system rooted in biological differences. Semiotically speaking, it is a binary sign system (male/female) with some variation involved (transsexuals, homosexuals, etc.). In the process of modernity, the biological motivation of the gender system is being loosened by technological innovations such as contraception and mother's milk substitute. At the same time, the state has replaced family and kin as the organizing structure of society and the cultural ideal of equality has gained a strong position. These and similar changes together have made gender flow in 'post-traditional' societies. The paper deals with this process in paying attention to th…
