Group Identities on Units of Group Algebras
2000
Abstract Let U be the group of units of the group algebra FG of a group G over a field F . Suppose that either F is infinite or G has an element of infinite order. We characterize groups G so that U satisfies a group identity. Under the assumption that G modulo the torsion elements is nilpotent this gives a complete classification of such groups. For torsion groups this problem has already been settled in recent years.
Che cos'è il packaging
2014
Racchiudere e proteggere, descrivere e raccontare, coinvolgere e consigliare.
Stepmothers in narratives : negotiations on relatedness
2018
This study contributes to the existing stepmother research by focusing on interaction as an aspect of stepmother identity construction. Accordingly, identity is seen as negotiated through interaction with other family members. A narrative approach applied to 58 stories written by Finnish stepmothers yielded three identity types: identity restricted by a biological mother, stepmother-centred identity, and team parenthood identity. The most dominant feature, common to all the stories, was that stepmothers perceived themselves primarily in relation to the children’s biological mothers, a stance that often led them to feel threatened. Stepmother identity construction appeared to be problematic …
Verso una geografia per la partecipazione
2018
This article introduces the contributions collected in the special issue no. 1/2018 of “geotema” and presented at the 4th Study Day on Territorial Identities (Rome, September 22nd, 2017), promoted by the homonymous research group of the A.Ge.I. (Associations of Italian Geographers). The paper aims at discussing some basic questions on participatory processes, in order to pursue four objectives: 1) to recall some of the main issues that revolve around the topic of citizen participation in territorial decision-making processes; 2) to specify the ties between territorial identity (as intended by the research group) and participatory processes; 3) to highlight the questions raised by the contri…

Two Cross-dressing Female Pirate Protagonists and Their Use by Thomas Heywood and Maturin Murray Ballou
2022
The article analyzes two cross-dressing female protagonists who go to sea and assume the position of pirate captains. They are Bess Bridges in Thomas Heywood’s dramatic work entitled The Fair Maid of the West; or, a Girl Worth Gold, and Fanny Campbell in The Female Pirate Captain. A Tale of the Revolution by Maturin Murray Ballou. The article shows distinct parallels between Bess and Queen Elizabeth Tudor, and demonstrates that Fanny’s seafaring adventure was inspired by that of Bess. Both heroines are also examined with a view to their contribution to the shaping of national identity and destiny of their respective countries.
Pedagogical approaches for e-assessment with authentication and authorship verification in Higher Education
2019
Checking the identity of students and authorship of their online submissions is a major concern in Higher Education due to the increasing amount of plagiarism and cheating using the Internet. The literature on the effects of e-authentication systems for teaching staff is very limited because it is a novel procedure for them. A considerable gap is to understand teaching staff' views regarding the use of e-authentication instruments and how they impact trust in e-assessment. This mixed-method study examines the concerns and practices of 108 teaching staff who used the TeSLA—Adaptive Trust-based e-Assessment System in six countries: the UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Finland and Turkey.…
Teachers’ pedagogical and relational identity negotiation in the Finnish CLIL context
2017
Abstract This study explores the professional identity of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) teachers in Finnish primary education. It aims at explaining how CLIL teachers negotiate their pedagogical and relational identity, and how identity agency is exercised in negotiating a more encompassing professional identity. Thematic analysis of thirteen interviews outlines the bi-directional process of identity negotiation between personal and professional resources, and social contexts at work. The results highlight a connection between professional identity and agency, and suggest that identity negotiation is a process of working and sharing with others, but also individually.
Ethos i tożsamość służby a bezpieczeństwo pracowników służb społecznych
2017
Bezpieczeństwo pracowników służb społecznych jest jedną z najważniejszych kwestii warunkujących jakość usług systemu pomocy i integracji społecznej, należy bowiem do katalogu podstawowych potrzeb człowieka. W sferze zawodowej pełni również funkcję regulatora relacji interpersonalnych, ponieważ określa relacje społeczne typu pracownik służby społecznej - użytkownik (odbiorca świadczeń i usług systemu pomocy i integracji społecznej). Ethos i tożsamość służby społecznej należą do tzw. grupy niewidzialnych instrumentów warunkujących bezpieczeństwo tej grupy zawodowej. W tych rozważaniach pełnią one dodatkowo rolę narzędzi analizy, która nawiązuje do czynnikowej teorii bezpieczeństwa pracowników…
