Understanding star-fundamental algebras

Star-fundamental algebras are special finite dimensional algebras with involution ∗ * over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero defined in terms of multialternating ∗ * -polynomials. We prove that the upper-block matrix algebras with involution introduced in Di Vincenzo and La Scala [J. Algebra 317 (2007), pp. 642–657] are star-fundamental. Moreover, any finite dimensional algebra with involution contains a subalgebra mapping homomorphically onto one of such algebras. We also give a characterization of star-fundamental algebras through the representation theory of the symmetric group.
Tuning of Extended Kalman Filters for Sensorless Motion Control with Induction Motor

This work deals with the tuning of an Extended Kalman Filter for sensorless control of induction motors for electrical traction in automotive. Assuming that the parameters of the induction motor-load model are known, Genetic Algorithms are used for obtaining the system noise covariance matrix, considering the measurement noise covariance matrix equal to the identity matrix. It is shown that only stator currents have to be acquired for reaching this objective, which is easy to accomplish using Hall-effect transducers. The aim of the current paper is to formulate a conception of pragmatic patterns characterizing the construction of individual and collective identities in virtual communities (in our case: the Twitter community). We have explored several theoretical approaches and frameworks and relevant empirical data to show that the agents building virtual communities are 'extended selves' grounded in a highly dynamic and compressed, linguistically mediated virtual network structure. Considering the central role of identity in understanding teacher development, this paper addresses the ways in which pre-service language teachers envision their identities as future professionals. The paper is based on a qualitative study of 61 students’ visualisations of their future work during their first semester in language teacher education. The visualisations and accompanying descriptive texts were analysed using the principles of qualitative content analysis. This chapter elaborates professional learning from two complementary perspectives, namely professional identity and agency. Starting with the conceptualization of identity and agency, the chapter illustrates how professional identity and agency are intertwined with workplace learning at the individual and social levels. In theoretical terms we adhere to a subject-centred socio-cultural approach.
