De Rham–Hodge–Kodaira Operator on Loop Groups

1997

AbstractWe consider a based loop group Le(G) over a compact Lie groupG, endowed with its pinned Wiener measureν(the law of the Brownian bridge onG) and we shall calculate the Ricci curvature for differentialn-forms over Le(G). A type of Bochner–Weitzenböck formula for general differentialn-forms (or Shigekawa identity) will be established.

Il Dioniso delle "Baccanti" e i "piegatori di pini". Polivalenza di un'immagine leggendaria

2021

This paper investigates the mythical and ritual background of Dionysus’ representation as “fir-bender” in Euripides’ "Bacchae" (ll. 1061 ff.), in an attempt to shed light not only on the dramaturgical aspects of the tragic plot, but also on the cultural categories that make this representation intelligible to the Athenian audience at the end of the fifth century BC. Following Louis Gernet’s historical-anthropological approach based on the notion of "polyvalence des images", this paper aims to define a mythical pattern – the connection between the bending of a tree and the dismemberment of a human victim – already attested in the Attic legend of Theseus and Sinis, in which both characters se…

"I feel that I am a world citizen and don’t really belong anywhere" : investigating linguistic identities of three Finnish missionary kids

2017

Nykyajan globalisoituneessa ja digitalisoituneessa maailmassa monikielisissä ympäristöissä elävien ihmisten lukumäärä kasvaa jatkuvasti. Lähetyslapset ovat erinomainen esimerkki tällaisista ihmisistä, joiden elämässä monikielisyydellä on merkittävä rooli, sillä heidän arkipäivässään on läsnä useampi kieli kuin heidän äidinkielensä. Tällä on luonnollisesti suuri vaikutus myös heidän kielellisiin identiteetteihinsä, sillä nykypäivän kielentutkimuksen näkökulmasta kielen ja identiteetin nähdään olevan lähes erottamattomia toisistaan. Aikaisemmin suomalaisia lähetyslapsia on tutkittu lähinnä kotimaahan paluun jälkeisen suomalaiseen yhteiskuntaan ja koulujärjestelmään jälleensopeutumisen näkökul…

Genetic contribution to the relationship between personality and depressive symptoms among older women.

2009

BackgroundPrior studies suggest that certain types of personality are at higher risk for developing depressive disorders. This study examined the relationship between old age depressive symptoms and two middle-age personality dimensions, neuroticism and extraversion.MethodThe present study is part of the Finnish Twin Study on Aging, where altogether 409 female twins who had completed the Eysenck Personality Inventory at the age of 38–51 years were studied for depressive symptoms 28 years later using Center for the Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. Logistic regression analysis suitable for dependent data and univariate and Cholesky models for decomposing the genetic and environmental f…

The Clip Approach : A Visual Methodology to Support the (Re)Construction of Life Narratives

2021

Major life changes may cause an autobiographical rupture and a need to work on one’s narrative identity. This article introduces a new qualitative interview methodology originally developed to facilitate 10 prostate cancer patients and five spouses in the (re)creation of their life narratives in the context of a series of interventive interviews conducted over a timespan of several months. In “The Clip Approach” the interviewees’ words, phrases, and metaphors are reflected back in a physical form (“the Clips”) as visual artifacts that allow the interviewees to re-enter and re-consider their experience and life and re-construct their narratives concerning them. Honoring the interviewees as …

Are There Lower Repetition Priming Effects in Children with Developmental Dyslexia? Priming Effects in Spanish with the Masked Lexical Decision Task.

2016

The aim of this study was to compare the reaction times and errors of Spanish children with developmental dyslexia to the reaction times and errors of readers without dyslexia on a masked lexical decision task with identity or repetition priming. A priming paradigm was used to study the role of the lexical deficit in dyslexic children, manipulating the frequency and length of the words, with a short Stimulus Onset Asynchrony (SOA = 150 ms) and degraded stimuli. The sample consisted of 80 participants from 9 to 14 years old, divided equally into a group with a developmental dyslexia diagnosis and a control group without dyslexia. Results show that identity priming is higher in control childr…

The mediating role of self-compassion in the relationship between victimization and psychological maladjustment in a sample of adolescents.

2014

The objectives of the present study were to analyze the relationship between victimization and psychological maladjustment in adolescents and the role of self-compassion as a mediator in this relationship. The sample was composed of 109 adolescents aged from 15 to 18 years old with poor school performance. The participants filled out a battery of questionnaires made up of: a socio-demographic data questionnaire; the Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire (JVQ); the Youth Self-Report (YSR); and the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS). RESULTS indicated that victimization was positively associated with psychological maladjustment. Moreover, adolescents reporting poly-victimization showed significantly …

Perceived social support and mortality in older people.

2006

Objectives This study examines the effect of perceived social support on all-cause mortality at a 10-year follow-up as well as the plausible mediating factors in this association. Methods We measured perceived social support in 206 Finnish men and women aged 80 years old by using the Social Provision Scale, which consists of six dimensions: attachment, social integration, opportunity for nurturance, reassurance of worth, reliable alliance, and guidance. Results By using a theoretical framework that divided perceived social support into assistance-related and non-assistance-related support, we found that the risk of death was almost 2.5 times higher in women in the lowest tertile of non-assi…

Gender differences and gender convergence in alcohol use over the past three decades (1984–2008), The HUNT Study, Norway

2016

Background: To examine changes in men‘s and women’s drinking in Norway over a 20-year period, in order to learn whether such changes have led to gender convergence in alcohol drinking. Methods: Repeated cross-sectional studies (in 1984–86, 1995–97, and 2006–08) of a large general population living in a geographically defined area (county) in Norway. Information about alcohol drinking is based on self-report questionnaires. Not all measures were assessed in all three surveys. Results: Adult alcohol drinking patterns have changed markedly over a 20-year period. Abstaining has become rarer while consumption and rates of recent drinking and problematic drinking have increased. Most changes were…
