Acquiring the language spoken in the host country is crucial for social inclusion of migrants. From this perspective, illiteracy represents a social problem since it has repercussions on second-language acquisition/learning process. In order to investigate the role of illiteracy in L2 Italian acquisition, the paper aims at analyzing the oral productions of L2 Italian learners with equal L1 but a different level of education, i.e., low educated vs. non-educated. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan luku- ja kirjoitustaitokampanjoita käsittelevän kansainvälisen dokumenttiaineiston perusteella sitä, millaisia merkityksiä sisältyy lukuja kirjoitustaidottomuuden määrittelyyn yhteiskunnalliseksi ongelmaksi, ja asetetaan kyseenalaiseksi tässä aineistossa ilmenevä yleismaailmallinen ideologia. Lisäksi pohditaan luku- ja kirjoitustaidon mahdollisista emansipatorista merkitystä kehitysmaiden oloissa.

Reading skills are more and more required to succeed professional examination. French crane drivers are concerned with this problem. In order to help them, we have conducted a study with three main steps. First, we carried out a cognitive work analysis. Second, we test several analogical modalities of written presentations focusing on the construction of a specific simulator. Finally, two experiments are presented showing a significative effect of this simulator on the comprehension of cranes technical documentation.
