On Dealing with Uncertainties from Kriging Models in Offline Data-Driven Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization

Many works on surrogate-assisted evolutionary multiobjective optimization have been devoted to problems where function evaluations are time-consuming (e.g., based on simulations). In many real-life optimization problems, mathematical or simulation models are not always available and, instead, we only have data from experiments, measurements or sensors. In such cases, optimization is to be performed on surrogate models built on the data available. The main challenge there is to fit an accurate surrogate model and to obtain meaningful solutions. We formulate and solve a real-world shape design optimization problem of an air intake ventilation system in a tractor cabin by using a preference-based surrogate-assisted evolutionary multiobjective optimization algorithm. Diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma and its precursor lesions

Improvement of survival rate and quality of life after treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma as well as cost reduction requires reliable early diagnosis of the tumor and its precursor lesions. Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a heterogeneous group of lesions that has been subdivided into three types: well differentiated (grade I), moderately differentiated (grade II), and poorly differentiated (grade III). Forty-five cases of DCIS were analyzed for image analysis: nuclear area, DNA ploidy, and vascularization in order to establish a more precise correlation between the histologic grade and these morphometric parameters. Spatial and temporal dynamics of innervation during the development of fetal human pancreas.

The delineation of pancreatic nerve innervations during fetal life may contribute to our understanding of pancreatic pain modalities after birth. The aim of this study was to characterize the spatial and temporal distribution of nerve structures in the human pancreas throughout gestation. Computer-based image morphometry with piecewise polynomial interpolation analysis was performed to quantify nervous structures in the head, body and tail of the pancreas.
