Cystic vestibular schwannoma: classification, management, and facial nerve outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: Review of postoperative morbidity and facial nerve outcomes of cystic vestibular schwannoma (CVS) patients compared with solid vestibular schwannoma (SVS) patients and a proposal for a new CVS classification system. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective review. SETTING: Tertiary care facility. PATIENTS: Ninety-six patients with surgically treated CVS (1998-2008). Outcomes were assessed in a subpopulation of 57 patients with greater than or equal to 1-year follow-up compared with 57 SVS patients. From 1987 to 1996, 106 consecutive patients with metastatic disease of the spine who underwent palliative decompression from a dorsal approach and subsequent stabilisation with Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation (CDI) were followed prospectively, and independent of the surgeons. Parameters evaluated were neurological function, perioperative complications, survival and rehabilitation. Following the Frankel system for the assessment of neurological disorder, 33 patients had a major deficit (grade A, B or C), 23 a minor deficit (grade D) and 50 no deficit. Experimental and methodological factors affecting test-retest reliability of amygdala BOLD responses.

Previous studies reported poor to fair test-retest reliability of amygdala BOLD responses to emotional stimuli. However, these findings are very heterogeneous across and within studies. The present study sought to systematically examine experimental and methodological factors that contribute to this heterogeneity. Forty-six young subjects were scanned twice with a mean test-retest interval of 7 weeks. Increased amplitudes of distortion product otoacoustic emissions in patients with unilateral acoustic neuroma.

We present a case series of 4 patients with a unilateral acoustic neuroma and increased amplitudes of the distortion products of otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) at the low- and middle- frequency bandwidth on the involved side compared to the uninvolved side despite a 28-dB hearing level (HL) worse (compared to the uninvolved side) pure-tone hearing threshold average for standard audiometric frequencies between 1 and 6 kHz at the involved side. Quantification of mitral valve stenosis by three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography

The aim of this study was the evaluation of the diagnostic potentials of transesophageal 3D- echocardiography in the determination of mitral valve stenosis. 54 patients were investigated by transthoracic and multiplane transesophageal echocardiography.
