2-[(1-Methyl-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)carbonyl-meth-yl]isoindoline-1,3-dione.
2009
The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C15H12N2O3, contains two almost identical molecules forming an nearly C2-symmetric dimeric pattern. The dihedral angles between the pyrrole ring and the phthalimide unit are 82.95 (8) and 86.57 (8)° for the two molecules. Within such a dimer, the phthalimide units of the two molecules form a dihedral angle of 1.5 (5)°.
Thermal behaviour and electrochemical properties of bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide and dodecatungstosilicate viologen dimers
2012
We report the synthesis and characterization of dimeric viologen salts (1',1''-(alkane-1,n-diyl)bis(1-ethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium) with n = 4-10) with bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide (bistriflimide, Tf(2)N(-)) as a counteranion. For n = 4, 5 and 6, and for the nonylviologen cation (1,1'-dinonyl-4,4'-bipyridinium) we also prepared salts with the totally inorganic dodecatungstosilicate anion, SiW(12)O(40)(4-), featuring a poly-charged surface and nanosized dimensions. The materials have been characterized by means of calorimetric techniques, X-ray diffraction and solid state NMR and a comparison is made with analogous monomeric viologen salts exhibiting smectic mesophases. A strong odd-even ef…
Synthesis of 5-substituted 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans in a one-pot oxidation/cyclization reaction
2011
Variously substituted 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans have been synthesized according to a sequential one-pot oxidation/cyclization procedure between para-aminophenol derivatives and an azadiene. Supramolecular structures formed by calix[8]arene derivatives.
2003
Octamethoxy calix[8]arenes substituted in the para position by amide, urea, and imide functions were synthesized from the octamethyl ether of tert-butylcalix[8]arene by ipso nitration, reduction, and acylation. Scanning force microscopy of spin coated samples on graphite suggests that these derivatives self-organize into tubular nanorods via hydrogen bonds between p-amide functions. A single-crystal X-ray structure reveals a centrosymmetric conformation for the octanitro derivative. [structure: see text]
Experimental and Theoretical Investigations of Structural Trends for Selenium(IV) Imides and Oxides: X-ray Structure of Se3(NAd) 2
2004
The thermal decomposition of Se(NAd)(2) (Ad = 1-adamantyl) in THF was monitored by (77)Se NMR and shown to give the novel cyclic selenium imide Se(3)(NAd)(2) as one of the products. An X-ray structural determination showed that Se(3)(NAd)(2) is a puckered five-membered ring with d(Se-Se) = 2.404(1) A and |d(Se-N)| = 1.873(4) A. On the basis of (77)Se NMR data, other decomposition products include the six-membered ring Se(3)(NAd)(3), and the four-membered rings AdNSe(micro-NAd)(2)SeO and OSe(micro-NAd)(2)SeO. The energies for the cyclodimerization of E(NR)(2) and RNEO (E = S, Se; R = H, Me, (t)Bu, SiMe(3)), and the cycloaddition reactions of RNSeO with E(NR)(2), RNSO(2) with Se(NR)(2), and S…
Assembly and Separation of Semiconductor Quantum Dot Dimers and Trimers
2011
Repeated precipitation of colloidal semiconductor quantum dots (QD) from a good solvent by adding a poor solvent leads to an increasing number of QD oligomers after redispersion in the good solvent. By using density gradient ultracentrifugation we have been able to separate QD monomer, dimer, and trimer fractions from higher oligomers in such solutions. In the corresponding fractions QD dimers and trimers have been enriched up to 90% and 64%, respectively. Besides directly coupled oligomers, QD dimers and trimers were also assembled by linkage with a rigid terrylene diimide dye (TDI) and separated again by ultracentrifugation. High-resolution transmission electron micrographs show that the …
New Strategy for the Stereoselective Synthesis of Fluorinated β-Amino Acids
2002
Racemic and chiral nonracemic alpha-substituted and alpha-unsubstituted beta-fluoroalkyl beta-amino acid derivatives 6 and 9 have been synthesized in two steps starting from fluorinated imidoyl chlorides 1 and ester enolates. This approach is based on the chemical reduction of previously obtained gamma-fluorinated beta-enamino esters 4 by using ZnI(2)/NaBH(4) in a nonchelated aprotic medium (dry CH(2)Cl(2)) as the reducing agent. A metal-chelated six-membered model has been suggested to explain the stereochemical outcome of the reduction reaction. The process takes place with high yields and with moderate to good diastereoselectivity. The best results related to diastereoselective reduction…
Filling the “green gap” of the major light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b complex by covalent attachment of Rhodamine Red
2009
AbstractThe major light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b complex (LHCII) greatly enhances the efficiency of photosynthesis in green plants. Recombinant LHCII can be assembled in vitro from its denatured, bacterially expressed apoprotein and plant pigments. This makes it an interesting candidate for biomimetic light-harvesting in photovoltaic applications. Due to its almost 20 pigments bound per apoprotein, LHCII absorbs efficiently in the blue and red spectral domains of visible light but less efficiently in the green domain, the so-called “green gap” in its absorption spectrum. Here we present a hybrid complex of recombinant LHCII with organic dyes that add to LHCII absorption in the green spect…
Hierarchical Self-Organization of Perylene Bisimide–Melamine Assemblies to Fluorescent Mesoscopic Superstructures
2000
A series of three perylene tetracarboxylic acid bisimide dyes 3a-c bearing phenoxy substituents at the four bay positions of the perylene core were synthesized and their complexation behavior to complementary ditopic dialkyl melamines 8a-c was investigated. Binding constants and Gibbs binding energies for the hydrogen bonds between the imide and the complementary melamine moiety have been determined in several solvents by NMR and UV/Vis titration experiments with monotopic model compounds 5 and 9. The effects of the solvent polarity and specific solvent-solute interactions on the degree of polymerization of (3 x 8)n are discussed, and a general formula to estimate the chain length of [AA-BB…
Visible-light driven oxidation of gaseous aliphatic alcohols to the corresponding carbonyls via TiO2 sensitized by a perylene derivative
2013
Sensitized P25 TiO2 was prepared by wet impregnation with a home-prepared perylene dye, i.e., N,N?-bis(2-(1- piperazino)ethyl)-3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic acid diimide dichloride (PZPER). Energy levels of PZPER were found to be compatible with those of TiO2 allowing fast electron transfer. The obtained catalyst has been characterized and used in the gas-phase partial oxidation of aliphatic primary and secondary alcohols, i.e., methanol, ethanol, and 2- propanol. The reaction was carried out under cut-off (?> 400 nm) simulated solar radiation in O2 atmosphere. The perylene derivative allowed a good absorbance of visible radiation thanks to its low optical energy gap (2.6 eV) which was …
