Threats and attitudes toward Russian-speaking immigrants: a comparative study between younger and older Finns

Using integrated threat theory as a theoretical lens to detect negative attitudes toward minority groups, this study compares and contrasts the perceptions and attitudes of older and younger Finns toward Russian-speaking minorities in Finland. A sample of high school students between 16 and 20 years of age represented the younger generation, while individuals over 65 years of age represented the older generation. The total sample was 242. Results indicated that there is a positive correlation between threat perception and prejudice. This article focuses on skilled migration flows from Southern Europe into Mexico. From semi-structured interviews with Spanish and Italian immigrants living in four Mexican cities of Mexico, it addresses both reasons for immigration and labour incorporation in Mexican labour markets. Specifically, it explores: i) the role of the economic crisis and the lack of good employment in the countries of origin as a key factor when deciding an international migration; ii) the employment opportunities offered in Mexican labour markets for the highly-skilled immigrants, and iii) the role played by the Mexican state and its current immigration law when channelling this group into the labour market

Tutkimus toi esiin tärkeitä haasteita liittyen suomalaisen väestön nopeaan ikääntymiseen ja kansainväliseen muuttoliikkeeseen. The language policy of the European Union has the goal that every citizen will be bilingual and everybody will be able to communicate in two diQ erent languages besides one’s mother tongue. The aim of this article is to investigate the conditions for reaching these goals among people with immigrant backgrounds. The article provides an overview of bilingualism among one group of adults with Hungarian background in Finland. This article focuses on verbal interaction in whole class teaching in second language education for adults in Sweden. The article draws on theories treating language as multiple resources that are situated and embedded in material life, and including complex and diverse linguistic, semiotic, physical material and social resources. The material for the article was created in a project based in linguistic ethnography in the form of an action research project, including two municipal Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) schools. Abstract This research focuses on second-generation Korean immigrants and the strategies they used to combine two different cultures – parents' and resident cultures – in their everyday lives. Using a case to reconstruct the meaning behind the strategies employed, this study aims to identify factors that influence immigrants' development when exposed to two different cultures. Objetivo: Describir el proceso migratorio (razones para emigrar, tiempo de residencia), la situación legal y las características personales, laborales y de salud de los inmigrantes con experiencia de trabajo en España. Métodos: Estudio transversal sobre una muestra estratificada por país de origen (Colombia, Ecuador, Marruecos y Rumanía), situación legal y sexo. Entrevista a 2434 trabajadores (57,4% varones).
