Carbonatites are rare magmatic rocks of great scientific and economic importance, and carbonatite magmatism is mainly associated with intraplate continental tectonic settings, with some rare occurrences in oceanic contexts. [1] Helium isotope ratios of olivine and pyroxene phenocrysts from Plio-Quaternary volcanic rocks from southern Italy (seven Aeolian Islands, Mt. Vulture, Etna, Ustica, and Pantelleria) range from 2.3 to 7.1 Ra. Importantly, the phenocryst 3He/4He correlate well with whole rock Sr isotopic composition (0.70309– 0.70711), reflecting the mixing of two sources. A significant contribution of He from crustal contamination is recorded only occasionally (e.g., pyroxenes from Vulcano). When merged with data from the Roman Comagmatic Province, a remarkably strong near-linear He-Sr isotope correlation is apparent. The abundance of mantle-derived rocks and lavas, in combination with its tectonic evolution, render Mexico a perfect laboratory to investigate the chemical and the isotopic heterogeneity of the lithospheric mantle. New data on the composition of noble gases and CO2in Mexican mantle xenoliths and lavas is reported. Il contributo, a partire dalle sfide educative poste oggi dalla società, legate in particolare alla domanda di comunità, di inclusione, di rispetto per la diversità, presenta alcune considerazioni, emerse dalla ricerca, utili a promuovere ulteriori riflessioni sulla formazione iniziale e in itinere di tutti gli insegnanti in prospettiva inclusiva, che può divenire un mezzo efficace per combattere atteggiamenti discriminatori, creare comunità accoglienti, costruire una società inclusiva.

Behavior of rare earth elements in an aquifer perturbed by CO2 injection: Environmental implications

International audience; Three cubic-meters of CO2-saturated water was injected into a subsurface fractured aquifer in a post-mined area, using a push-pull test protocol. Groundwater samples were collected before and after CO2-injection to quantify geochemical changes. CO2-injection initially reduced the pH of water from 7.3 to 5.7, led to the enrichment of major ions (Ca2+, Mg2+, and alkalinity), and dissolved trace metals (including Fe, Mn, As, and Zn) in the groundwater. Rare earth elements (REE) and yttrium concentrations were also measured in these samples before and after CO2 perturbation, to evaluate their behavior.
