A cross-country configurational approach to international academic mobility: exploring mobility effects on academics’ career progression in EU countr…
2022
This study takes a novel perspective on mobility as career script compliance to explore the factors that might influence how mobile academics in a country perceive the impact of international mobility on their overall academic career progression and job options. We conduct a country-level qualitative comparative analysis on a sample of 24 European Union (EU) countries, based on data from European Commission’s MORE3 indicator tool. We find that these perceptions about the impact are shaped by the dominant patterns of mobility in that country, and the general perception of academics in that particular country that international mobility is rewarded in the institutional promotion schemes. The use of energy in the Mediterranean fishing catching sector. A Sicilian perspective
2010
This article address an issue of paramount importance in the Mediterranean area, that is the efficient use of energy and sustainability of fishing sector. A recent study concerning the situation of Fishery and Aquaculture in Sicily highlighted that the Sicilian fishing system requires a bigger amount of energy than the typical Italian or European situation, in order of getting the product available to the market. On the other hand this involves an higher level of environmental pollution, for a given quantity of catch. One of the main findings is that there is a need for a clear, scientifically-founded panorama of the situation and that further studies should be undertaken to provide fishing…
The use of bark of Scots Pine in environmental impact assessment of cement and lime dust
2016
Najsilniej odnotowano presję w kierunku NE, ES i SW, gdzi…
Badania nad potencjalnym wykorzystaniem pluskwiaków różnoskrzydłych (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) w bioindykacji i monitoringu przyrodniczym
2023
This paper presented the results of the studies on true bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) alongside evaluating their potential usefulness in biomonitoring and bioindication. The studies were carried out in May and August of 2017. Three research sites situated at various distances from the full-scale plants (Grupa Azoty Zakłady Azotowe Kędzierzyn SA, Zakłady Chemiczne Petrochemia-Blachownia SA, Zakłady Koksownicze ArcelorMittal Poland Zdzieszowice) and the control area out of reach of the emission of chemical pollutants, i.e. the meadows in the Chrząstowice area of Natura 2000, have been selected for studies. All studied meadows were classified within the Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class. As a resu…
Identification and structural characterization of O-beta-ribosyl-(1"----2')-adenosine-5"-phosphate in yeast methionine initiator tRNA.
1990
We report in this paper on the complete structure determination of the modified nucleotide A*, now called Ar(p), that was previously identified in yeast methionine initiator tRNA as an isomeric form of O-ribosyl-adenosine bearing an additional phosphoryl-monoester group on its ribose2 moiety. By using the chemical procedure of periodate oxidation and subsequent beta-elimination with cyclohexylamine on mono- and dinucleotides containing Ar(p), we characterized the location of the phosphate group on the C-5" of the ribose2 moiety, and the linkage between the two riboses as a (1"----2')-glycosidic bond. Since the structural difference between phosphatase treated Ar(p) and authentic O-alpha-rib…
3'-Arylazido-beta-alanyl-2-azido ATP, a cross-linking photoaffinity label for F1ATPases.
1989
Abstract The synthesis of the 3′-arylazido-2-azido ATP derivative 3′-O-{3-[N-(4-azido-2-nitrophenyl)-amino]propionyl}2-azido-adenosine 5′-triphosphate (2,3′-DiN3ATP) is described. The bifunc tional photoreactive ATP analog is characterized spectroscopically. Photoaffinity labeling of F, ATPase from Micrococcus luteus by this analog results in the inactivation of the enzyme and in the formation of higher molecular weight cross-links,

Photoautotrophic community changes in Lagunillo del Tejo (Spain) in response to lake level fluctuation: Two centuries of sedimentary pigment records
2009
Lagunillo del Tejo is a small doline lake in a karstic region of the Iberian Ranges (central-eastern Spain) that undergoes significant lake level fluctuation in response to changing aquifer influxes. In order to assess changes in the primary producer community in the lake over the last two centuries and to elucidate whether these were conditioned by climatic variability, photosynthetic pigments and their derivatives were extracted from the sediments and the data analysed using multivariate statistical techniques. Quantitative variations in total pigment concentrations through the sedimentary sequence are considered a result of changes in sedimentation rate, largely due to lake level fluctua…
Capillary column gas chromatographic identification of sugars in honey as trimethylsilyl derivatives.
1987
A method for identifying carbohydrates (mono-, di- and trisaccharides) in honey is presented. It is based on the separate preparation of both trimethylsilyl ethers and oxime trimethylsilyl ethers of the sugars followed by their gas chromatographic separation on a fused-silica capillary column coated with OV-101 using temperature programming. From the two chromatograms, the number of peaks given by each derivatized sugar, their relative retention times and peak-area ratios are used for identification. The identities of two unidentified trisaccharide peaks are considered. Quantitative applications to honey sugar analysis are discussed.
A Theoretical and Experimental Study of Electrochemical pH Control at Gold Interdigitated Microband Arrays
2021
In electroanalysis, solution pH is a critical parameter that often needs to be adjusted and controlled for the detection of particular analytes. This is most commonly performed by the addition of chemicals, such as strong acids or bases. Electrochemical in-situ pH control offers the possibility for the local adjustment of pH at the point of detection, without additional reagents. FEA simulations have been performed to guide experimental design for both electroanalysis and in-situ control of solution pH. No previous model exists that describes the generation of protons at an interdigitated electrode array in buffered solution with one comb acting as a protonator, and the other as the sensor.…
