Aggressive B-cell lymphomas share high proliferative and invasive attitudes and dismal prognosis despite heterogeneous biological features. In the interchained sequence of events leading to cancer progression, neoplastic clone-intrinsic molecular events play a major role. The objective of this study was to compare, at equal blood pressure (BP) reduction, the effect of two different combinations on metabolic control and albuminuria in type 2 diabetic hypertensive patients with albuminuria. This was a prospective, randomised, double-blind, parallel, controlled trial carried out in 11 Spanish hospitals. A total of 103 type 2 diabetic patients with stable albuminuria and BP not controlled on monotherapy were randomised of which 93 finished the study. After a 4-week single-blind placebo period, patients were randomised to verapamil SR/trandolapril 180/2 mg (VT) or to enalapril/hydroclorothiazide 20/12.5 mg (EH). Treatment duration was 6 months. International audience; The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a chemical sensor upregulating the transcription of responsive genes associated with endocrine homeostasis, oxidative balance and diverse metabolic, immunological and inflammatory processes, which have raised the pharmacological interest on its modulation. Herein, a novel set of 32 unsymmetrical triarylmethane (TAM) class of structures has been synthesized, characterized and their AhR transcriptional activity evaluated using a cell-based assay. Construction and expression of a dual vector for chemo-enzymatic synthesis of plant indole alkaloids inEscherichia coli

A dual vector (pQE-70-STR1-SG) containing coding regions of strictosidine synthase (STR1, EC 4.3.3.2) and strictosidine glucosidase (SG, EC 3.2.1.105) from the Indian medicinal plant Rauvolfia serpentina was constructed. Functional expression of the vector in Escherichia coli cells (M15 strain) was proven by isolation of prepurified enzyme extracts, which show both STR1 and SG activities. Incubation of the enzyme in the presence of tryptamine and secologanin delivered the indole alkaloid cathenamine, demonstrating functional co-expression of both STR1- and SG-cDNAs. Delineation of the biochemical pathway leading to the antiarrhythmic Rauvolfia alkaloid ajmaline has been an important target in biosynthetic research for many years. The biosynthetic sequence starting with tryptamine and the monoterpene secologanin consists of about 10 different steps. Most of the participating enzymes have been detected and characterized previously, except those catalyzing the reduction of the intermediate vomilenine. Electronic structure of metal‐free phthalocyanine : A valence effective Hamiltonian theoretical study

We present a valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) nonempirical investigation of the electronic properties of metal‐free phthalocyanine. The valence one‐electron energy levels are related to those of the phthalocyanine components: benzene, pyrrole, and isoindole. From the electronic structure standpoint, phthalocyanine has to be viewed as formed by joining four benzene moieties to the central carbon–nitrogen ring rather than by combining four isoindole units through nitrogen bridges.
