Practical Implementation of a Synchronous PWM Strategy for Low Switching Frequency FOC of im Drives with ATSAM3X8E Microcontroller
2021
This paper presents a practical implementation of synchronous PWM modulation algorithm for an induction motor field oriented control powered by a DC/AC inverter and implemented on a low-cost microcontroller, the ATSAM3X8E. In particular, a simple algorithm, capable to calculate automatically an optimized set of frequency modulation indexes will be presented. Hysteresis bands are also introduced in the algorithm in order to avoid multiple changeovers during modulation index transitions. Experimental tests and their results will be shown and discussed, highlighting the benefits of the present algorithm, such as reduction of current harmonic content, reduction of current ripple and, consequent…
Double squirrel cage induction motors: A new approach to detect rotor bar failures
2013
The purpose of this paper is to present a diagnosis technique, for rotor broken bar in double cage induction motor, based on a combined use of frequency sliding and wavelet transform analysis, to isolate the contribution of the rotor fault components issued from vibration signals in a single frequency band. The validity of the proposed diagnosis approach is not limited to the analysis under steady-state operating conditions, but also for time-varying conditions where rotor fault components are spread in a wide frequency range.
Monitoring and Diagnosis of Failures in Squirrel-Cage Induction Motors Due to Cracked or Broken Bars
2011
In this paper three diagnostic procedures, based on on the vibration, current and instantaneous power monitoring for the detection and monitoring of incipient faults as cracks or bar breaks on squirrel cage motors are briefly reminded. The experimental investigations, carried out at the SDESLab (Sustainable Development Energy Savings Laboratory) of the University of Palermo in order to underline merits and drawbacks of the methods applied to the same die cast squirrel cage induction motor, are presented. The results of the investigations confirmed the effectiveness of the diagnostic procedures here considered.
A time-course investigation of vitamin A levels and drug metabolizing enzyme activities in rats following a single treatment with prototypic polychlo…
1987
Xenobiotics previously characterized as selective inducers of drug-metabolizing enzymes were chosen to probe possible relationships between enzyme induction and vitamin A metabolism. Liver, kidney and serum retinol and retinyl palmitate levels were investigated in male Sprague--Dawley rats receiving a single i.p. injection of the polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), 2,2',5,5'-tetrachlorobiphenyl, 3,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl or 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexachlorobiphenyl (300 mumol/kg) or 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis-(4-chlorophenyl)-ethane (DDT) (150 mumol/kg). While 2,2',5,5'-tetrachlorobiphenyl, a weak or non-inducer, and 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexaclorobiphenyl and DDT, phenobarbital-type inducers of cytochrome…
A practical solution to the problem of automatic part-of-speech induction from text
2005
The problem of part-of-speech induction from text involves two aspects: Firstly, a set of word classes is to be derived automatically. Secondly, each word of a vocabulary is to be assigned to one or several of these word classes. In this paper we present a method that solves both problems with good accuracy. Our approach adopts a mixture of statistical methods that have been successfully applied in word sense induction. Its main advantage over previous attempts is that it reduces the syntactic space to only the most important dimensions, thereby almost eliminating the otherwise omnipresent problem of data sparseness.
CN2-R: Faster CN2 with randomly generated complexes
2011
Among the rule induction algorithms, the classic CN2 is still one of the most popular ones; a great amount of enhancements and improvements to it is to witness this. Despite the growing computing capacities since the algorithm was proposed, one of the main issues is resource demand. The proposed modification, CN2-R, substitutes the star concept of the original algorithm with a technique of randomly generated complexes in order to substantially improve on running times without significant loss in accuracy.
Diagnostics of stator winding failures in wind turbine pitch motors using Vold-Kalman filter
2019
Pitch systems are among the most failure-prone components in wind turbines. Winding failures in pitch motors are common due to high start-up loads and poor ventilation. This article presents a diagnostics scheme that can detect the stator winding failures in the pitch motors under time-varying speed and load conditions. The proposed approach based on three-phase motor currents can be directly integrated into the motor drive and can be used for induction as well as permanent magnet synchronous machines. The extended Park's vector calculated on the motor currents is order tracked based on the supply frequency from the drive using Vold-Kalman filter. The approach is shown to be robust under ar…

Abstract The aim of this work is to present a formulation to solve the one-dimensional Ising model using the elementary technique of mathematical induction. This formulation is physically clear and leads to the same partition function form as the transfer matrix method, which is a common subject in the introductory courses of statistical mechanics. In this way our formulation is a useful tool to complement the traditional more abstract transfer matrix method. The method can be straightforwardly generalised to other short-range chains, coupled chains and is also computationally friendly. These two approaches provide a more complete understanding of the system, and therefore our work can be o…

Unconscious odour conditioning 25 years later: Revisiting and extending ‘Kirk-Smith, Van Toller and Dodd’
2009
International audience; The pioneering work by Kirk-Smith, Van Toller, and Dodd [Kirk-Smith, M. D., Van Toller, C., & Dodd, G. H. (1983). Unconscious odour conditioning in human subjects. Biological Psychology, 17, 221–231], established that an unnoticed odorant paired with an emotionally meaningful task can influence mood and attitudes when the odorant alone is re-encountered subsequently. This study was particularly important in highlighting unconscious odour learning processes as they may happen in everyday life. However, it was severely criticized by Black and Smith [Black, S. L., & Smith, D. G. (1994). Has odor conditioning been demonstrated? A critique of “Unconscious odour conditioni…
