The spin-dependent structure function g1(x) of the deuteron from polarized deep-inelastic muon scattering
1997
We present a new measurement of the spin-dependent structure function $g_{1}^{\rm d}$ of the deuteron from deep inelastic scattering of 190 GeV polarized muons on polarized deuterons. The results are combined with our previous measurements of $g_{1}^{\rm d}$. A perturbative QCD evolution in next-to-leading order is used to compute $g_{1}^{\rm d}(x)$ at a constant $Q^{2}$. At $Q^{2} = 10$ GeV$^{2}$, we obtain a first moment $\Gamma_{1}^{\rm d} = \int_{0}^{1} g_{1}^{\rm d}{\rm d}x = 0.041 \pm 0.008$, a flavour-singlet axial charge of the nucleon $a_{0} = 0.30 \pm 0.08$, and an axial charge of the strange quark $a_{s} = -0.09 \pm 0.03$. Using our earlier determination of $\Gamma_{1}^{\rm p}$, …
dc transport in dissipative disordered one-dimensional systems
1995
We present a numerical study of the dc transport properties of dissipative disordered chains which are described by linear ensembles of interconnected scatterers. The elastic-scattering amplitudes are derived from an Anderson Hamiltonian with diagonal (site) disorder. Inelastic scattering is accounted for by connecting the sites of the Anderson chain to separate external electron reservoirs. The calculated wave-vector-dependent transmission probabilities are discussed for chains with different lengths and for different degrees of dissipation. Using the Landauer-B\"uttiker approach we obtain the dc resistance of the considered samples. Our results demonstrate the rather intricate competition…
Complete Electric Dipole Response and the Neutron Skin inPb208
2011
A benchmark experiment on Pb-208 shows that polarized proton inelastic scattering at very forward angles including 0 degrees is a powerful tool for high-resolution studies of electric dipole (E1) and spin magnetic dipole (M1) modes in nuclei over a broad excitation energy range to test up-to-date nuclear models. The extracted E1 polarizability leads to a neutron skin thickness r(skin) = 0.156(-0.021)(+0.025) fm in Pb-208 derived within a mean-field model [Phys. Rev. C 81, 051303 (2010)], thereby constraining the symmetry energy and its density dependence relevant to the description of neutron stars.
Isospin Character of Low-Lying Pygmy Dipole States inPb208via Inelastic Scattering ofO17Ions
2014
The properties of pygmy dipole states in Pb-208 were investigated using the Pb-208(O-17, O-17'gamma) reaction at 340 MeV and measuring the gamma decay with high resolution with the AGATA demonstrator array. Cross sections and angular distributions of the emitted gamma rays and of the scattered particles were measured. The results are compared with (gamma, gamma') and (p, p') data. The data analysis with the distorted wave Born approximation approach gives a good description of the elastic scattering and of the inelastic excitation of the 2(+) and 3(-) states. For the dipole transitions a form factor obtained by folding a microscopically calculated transition density was used for the first t…
Nuclear tests for the strange charge from factor of the nucleon
1992
Abstract It is shown that the measurements of elastic and inelastic scattering of neutrinos and parity-violating asymmetry of longitudinally polarized electrons on spin-isospin zero nuclei would yield model independent information about the strangeness charge form factor. Nunerical estimates of the contribution of this form factor are presented for 4 He, 12 C and 16 O nuclei in impulse approximation using strangeness vector from factors of the nucleon recently suggested in the literature. A general relation between the P -odd asymmetry in electron scattering and the cross sections of neutrino and unpolarized electron scattering on spin zero nuclei is obtained.
Elastic and inelastic photon scattering from 12C
1994
Abstract The elastic and inelastic photon scattering from 12 C was investigated in the energy range of the Δ-resonance ( E γ = 200–500 MeV) at a scattering angle of 40°. The experiment was performed with the tagged photon facility at the cw electron accelerator MAMI ( E e − = 855 MeV). By using a large NaI(Tl) detector having an energy resolution of 1.5%, the elastic scattering could be separated from the inelastic process to the first excited state ( E x = 4.44 MeV of 12 C. The differential cross section for the coherent scattering is compared with a simple static ansatz, that uses the known charge form factor, and with a recent Δ-hole calculation.

Measurement of the Transverse Beam Spin Asymmetry in Elastic Electron Proton Scattering and the Inelastic Contribution to the Imaginary Part of the T…
2004
We report on a measurement of the asymmetry in the scattering of transversely polarized electrons off unpolarized protons, A$_\perp$, at two Q$^2$ values of \qsquaredaveragedlow (GeV/c)$^2$ and \qsquaredaveragedhighII (GeV/c)$^2$ and a scattering angle of $30^\circ < _e < 40^\circ$. The measured transverse asymmetries are A$_{\perp}$(Q$^2$ = \qsquaredaveragedlow (GeV/c)$^2$) = (\experimentalasymmetry alulowcorr $\pm$ \statisticalerrorlow$_{\rm stat}$ $\pm$ \combinedsyspolerrorlowalucor$_{\rm sys}$) $\times$ 10$^{-6}$ and A$_{\perp}$(Q$^2$ = \qsquaredaveragedhighII (GeV/c)$^2$) = (\experimentalasymme tryaluhighcorr $\pm$ \statisticalerrorhigh$_{\rm stat}$ $\pm$ \combinedsyspolerrorhi…
4He+Ni elastic scattering near the Coulomb barrier and optical model parameters
2002
Cross sections for the elastic scattering system of 4He+Ni have been investigated. Natural nickel was bombarded by 4He ions in the laboratory energy range of 3.0–14.3 MeV and the intensity of helium backscattering through laboratory angles of 96°, 117°, and 137° was observed. From measured yield data, the cross sections were extracted for the direct Ni(4He,4He)Ni scattering process as well as for the inverse recoil scattering process 4He(58Ni,4He)58Ni by calculating the kinematical reversal of the reaction. The experimental helium scattering angles convert to helium recoil angles of 20°, 30°, and 40°, and the incident helium ion energies to 43.5–207 MeV for incident 58Ni ions in the reverse…
Comparison of woods-saxon and double-folding potentials forα-particle scattering from54Fe at 24.5 MeV
1988
Inelastic-scattering data are presented forα-particles of 24.5 MeV from54Fe over the range 15° to 175° in the centre-of-mass system. The real part of the optical potential is calculated microscopically using the M3Y effective interaction of Bertschet al. and the DDM3Y density-dependent interaction. Elastic scattering has been analysed by using as real part of the optical potential M3Y, DDM3Y and Woods-Saxon forms (WS), taking in all three cases as imaginary part a WS potential. To fit the data the double-folding potential needs to be normalized by a factor of ⋍1.6 for the M3Y interaction and of ⋍1.13 for the DDM3Y interaction. By the study of the invariant-point ambiguity it has been observ…
