Intramural neovascularization and haemorrhages are major long‐term effects of intravascularγ‐radiation after stenting

Structural changes that might influence the structural integrity of the vessel in response to intravascular brachytherapy (IVB) and stenting were examined, focus being on the importance of neovascularization in rabbit stented arteries. Stents were implanted in the infrarenal aortas of rabbits, immediately followed by gamma IVB or a sham radiation procedure, and the arteries harvested at 6 months. Background and study aims Although various improvements in tissue imaging modalities have recently been achieved, in-vivo molecular and subsurface imaging in the field of gastroenterology remains a technical challenge. In this study we evaluated a newly developed, handheld, miniaturized confocal laser microscopy probe for real-time in-vivo molecular and subsurface imaging in rodent models of human disease. Plastic foil technique attenuates inflammation in mesenteric intravital microscopy.

Abstract Background. Interpretation of intravital microscopic observations is complicated by the “inflammatory”-type response to the trauma inflicted on the tissue by the surgical preparation. The present study evaluates different experimental conditions for prolonged observations of the mesenteric microcirculation in the rat. Methods. Inflammation-responsive focal constrictors in the mouse ear microcirculation

In many capillary exchange beds, blood flow is locally regulated by precapillary sphincter-like activity. In this study, we used intravascular tracers and scanning electron microscopy to investigate precapillary blood flow regulation in the mouse ear. Gelatin ink injections of the normal mouse ear demonstrated 6.8 +/- 2.3 axial vessels with a cutoff of detectable tracer in the early branches: 19 +/- 11 focal constrictions were observed along the 1st to 5th order branches of the axial vessels. Bridging Mucosal Vessels Associated with Rhythmically Oscillating Blood Flow in Murine Colitis

Oscillatory blood flow in the microcirculation is generally considered to be the result of cardiopulmonary influences or active vasomotion. In this report, we describe rhythmically oscillating blood flow in the bridging vessels of the mouse colon that appeared to be independent of known biological control mechanisms. Heterogeneity of atherosclerosis in mesenteric arteries and outgrowth remodeling

Abstract Background In patients with acute mesenteric ischemia by occlusive thrombo-embolism, the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) is more affected than the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA). Methods This study investigated postmortem mesenteric arteries from aged subjects (n=21). Four atherosclerotic stages were defined by signs of degeneration and inflammation in sections stained with Elastica-van-Gieson and immunohistology, respectively. Local skin necroses after intramuscular injection -Experimental animal studies-.

The pathogenesis of local skin necroses after intramuscular injection of various drugs such as phenylbutazone (Embolia cutis medicamentosa, Nicolau's syndrome) is not clear. In an attempt to simulate this clinical feature experiments were performed on the rabbit ear lobe. A 20% phenylbutazone solution was injected paraarterial, intraarterial and paraarterial after perforation of the vessel. The drug produced a violent inflammation with all kinds of application. The local inflammation induced by paraarterial injection resulted in a fine scarring. Both other kinds of application produced necroses or even perforations.
