Projection and Pinhole-Based Data Acquisition for Small-Animal SPECT Using Storage Phosphor Technology

Three-dimensional Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) can provide high-resolution insight into biomolecular distribution and pharmacokinetics. However, instrument availability and distribution is limited at present,and imaging times can be considerable. To evaluate the large array of novel agents which are becoming available,we find that storage phosphor-based in vivo imaging can provide an important,rapid-throughput transition from the traditional ex vivo sacrifice/gamma counting and autoradiography to full-time course SPECT.

Tutkin pro gradu -työssäni Turun Kakolanmäellä vuosina 1911 – 2007 toimineen Psykiatrisen vankisairaalan seinämaalauksia. Yksittäisen kuvan sijaan kiinnitän huomioni maalausprojektiin ja toisintokuvaan tekemisen tapana. Lähestyn vankipotilaiden maalaamia toisintokuvia suomalaisen mielisairaan- ja vankeinhoidon historian näkökulmasta ja pohdin, kuinka 1920- 1930-luvuilla maalatut kuvat asettuivat vankilan ja mielisairaalan käytänteitä lainaavaan laitoskulttuuriin. Tarkennan laitosmuotoisen hoidon ja rankaisemisen periaatteisiin ja arvioin, kuinka Suomen ensimmäinen vankien mielisairaalasairaala niitä hoitotyössään sovelsi. This chapter explores the affective aspects of aversive experiences relating to music listening. In music psychology research, there is a strong consensus that one of the most important reasons that people listen to music is to experience emotions, and that most music-evoked emotions are positively toned. Negative emotions, therefore, are often considered irrelevant in a musical context. However, although many people think music is fundamentally a positive and pleasurable phenomenon, it is also known to been purposely used for evoking unpleasant affective reactions, even for torture. "Sillä rahalla ei voi tulla toimeen jos ois kuinka hyvä laskupää" : punaorpojen avustaminen Kuopiossa 1918-1933

Suomen sisällissota käytiin vuonna 1918, ja sen seurauksena kuoli noin 36 000 ihmistä ja yli 14 000 lasta jäi orvoiksi. Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkastelen Kuopiossa sisällissodan seurauksena punaisten orvoiksi jääneitä lapsia. Tutkin, kuinka Kuopion kaupungin viranomaiset huolsivat punaorpoperheitä, ja vaikuttiko perheiden tausta avustustoimiin ja niiden toteuttamiseen. Kuopiossa punaorpopolitiikkaa toteutettiin erilaisessa kontekstissa kuin isommissa sodankärsineissä kaupungeissa. Kuopiossa oli sisällissodan jälkeen yhteensä 52 alle 15-vuotiasta punaorpoa. "Isä kuollut kapinassa" : Ruoveden punaorpohuolto ja sodan muisteltu lapsuus vuosina 1918 - 1924

Vuoden 1918 sodan jälkeen Suomeen jäi eri lähteiden mukaan noin 14 400 lasta ilman huoltajaa. Lapsista lähes 90 % oli punaisen puolen jälkeläisiä. Isättömät lapset jaettiin kahteen ryhmään; valkoisten puolen lasten huolto järjestettiin eläkkeen turvin, ja punaorvot jäivät kuntien köyhäinhoidon varaan. Punaorvot muodostivat nuoren valtion uudelle sosiaalihallitukselle pikaista ratkaisua odottavan sosiaalisen, taloudellisen, moraalisen sekä poliittisen ongelman. This chapter looks at the terminology that we have for discussing deliberate disgust production. Terms such as profanation, the carnivalesque and queering describe processes that attack, highlight, and possibly question a society’s norms and power relations by portraying something that might otherwise be sacred or conventional in an inappropriate, parodic or weird manner. Since norm violations may induce disgust, these terms may be considered as engaging with disgust. Yet the aims and outcomes of the engagement that they describe seem different. The structural disorder of a silica network probed by site selective luminescence of the nonbridging oxygen hole centre

We studied the inhomogeneous distribution of the luminescence band associated with the nonbridging oxygen hole centre in silica through site selective excitation/detection of the zero phonon line by a tunable laser source. Defects induced in the bulk of synthetic samples by γ and β exposure exhibit an increase of the inhomogeneous width from 0.071 to 0.086 eV on increasing the irradiation dose from 2 × 10(6) to 5 × 10(9) Gy. We also investigated two defect variants stabilized at the surface of the silica nanoparticles, (≡ Si-O)3 Si–O* and (≡ Si-O)2(H-O)Si-O*, whose inhomogeneous width was measured to be 0.042 eV and 0.060 eV, respectively.
